As part of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)’s global connect program for knowledge exchange and institutionalization of best practices, a distinguished international visitor, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Carolus was hosted at the university’s Coimbatore campus on 1 August 2024. Prof. Thomas Carolus is Professor & Chair of Applied Fluid Mechanics & Fluid Flow Machinery in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Siegen, Germany. He has also served in senior administrative positions at the University of Siegen such as Dean & senate member and as a peer reviewer in the national accreditation body ‘AQAS’ of Germany. He interacted with Dr. Prashant R. Nair, Vice-Chairman – Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore campus, on best practices in the German accreditation space and the process of institutionalizing best practices. He touched upon the nuances of system and program accreditation and the various criteria such as internal evaluations, student feedback, cooperation with industry, and regular reviews. Prof. Thomas Carolus also addressed the faculty and students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering on ‘Turbomachinery & Fluid Mechanics’ and also visited the Amrita Automotive Research & Technology Center. Dr. Ramesh Kumar K, Professor & Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, presented a memento to the distinguished visitor on behalf of the university.
