Abstract : Aluminium Welding is one domain where lot of researches are going on as aluminium and its alloys find lots of use in automobile, spacecrafts and aircrafts and other fields considering the various desirous properties. This paper investigates the weld bead properties of AA 6351 weldments which was welded using GMAW process. Reinforcement Form Factor (RFF), Penetration Shape Factor (PSF) and Percentage of Dilution (%D), contributors of quality of any weldments were analyzed and optimized in this work with respect to various control factors such as table speed, the welding speed, electrode coil feed rate, nozzle to tip distance and welding voltage. Taguchi’s L16 Orthogonal array was used to conduct the experiment and optimize the control factors. Results from the investigations paved way to conclude that AA 6351 material can be successfully and effectively welded by using GMAW process.
