Abstract : Copper-based halide perovskite with aromatic organic cation shows high stability and thermochromic behaviour. This report envisages, the synthesis and characterisations of (Benzylammonium)2CuCl4 perovskite and verification of its thermochromic behaviour via temperature depended structural and optical characterisations. The work also includes encapsulation of film and verifying the sustainability of thermochromic behaviour. The structural study of the material disclosed the formation of centrosymmetric monoclinic crystal structure. The photoemission spectral analysis confirmed the Ruddelson-Popper phase of perovskite. It revealed the band gap, work function, valence band maximum and conduction band minimum positions of the material. The material showed a change in colour from yellow to orange, evident as a red shift in temperature-driven optical characteristics. The distortion produced in the crystallographic structure upon heating was responsible for this shift. SiO2 based hydrophobic nano encapsulant protected the (Benzylammonium)2CuCl4 thin film so that its thermochromic behaviour was sustained for a long time compared to the non-encapsulated film
