Abstract : The proposed work is to make use of the support vector machine algorithm in building a face recognition model using the MATLAB software. The efficiency of the face recognition model that is developed is tested by making use of two different image databases called the Faces94 database and the FEI database by considering a few images in both the databases. Apart from the images considered from the two databases, a few more images with some customized distortions were also taken into consideration to test the model. The main objective of this work is to check how the support vector machine algorithm with the aid of the bag of visual words module from MATLAB would work when used in the domain of face recognition.
