Abstract : Random numbers are an essential element in various applications, ranging from simulations to cryptography. While true random numbers can be generated using physical processes, pseudo random numbers can be generated using deterministic circuits. This paper focuses on two popular methods for generating pseudo random numbers: Linear Feedback Shift Registers and multivibrator circuits. This paper explores the principles of LFSR and multivibrator circuits for generating pseudo random numbers. It discusses the design considerations, such as area, time and power considerations taken by an LFSR and multivibrator circuits, to achieve desired randomness. The paper also discusses the limitations of pseudo random number generation using LFSR and multivibrator circuits. It highlights the deterministic nature of these circuits, which can result in periodicity and vulnerability to cryptanalysis. It emphasizes that these methods are suitable for non-security critical applications that require efficiently generated pseudo random sequences.
