This novel composition of AI, CS and Medical Engineering is aimed at creating premium skilled interdisciplinary leaders, future scientists, entrepreneurs under all areas of AI and Data science with a special focus on Healthcare.
Please refer to the detailed syllabus under important instructions. The syllabus is inherently interdisciplinary and would entail covering the foundational aspects of all core engineering streams through Math essentials, right by the end of the first year itself. This syllabus would be dynamic and under constant revision based on our on-going research on accessible premium pedagogy and the monthly reviews with research and pedagogic content from the top universities of the globe like MIT, Stanford, and Berkeley.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has the right combination of AI and DS pedagogy, opportunity for translational research in medicine through its myriad country wide research centers, and clinical practice based medical expertise attained through its 2 super specialty hospitals covering 80+ specialties (AIMS Cochin, AIMS Faridabad), Faridabad being the biggest private hospital in Asia.
While the students will learn AI and Data Science principles profusely, they will also apply this learning to design, develop and analyze Biological systems and processes, computational bioinformatics and model complex bio-engineering models related to the futuristic areas such as Endovascular robotics, Spatial multi-omics etc.
This program casts the widest net possible, in terms of potential for recruitment. From Full stack developers to Data Scientists to Machine Learning Engineers to Computational Bioinformatics scientists, to Medical Instrumentation engineers to Biostatisticians to Software Engineers to Prompt Engineers for LLMs, you name the job profile and the students of this course would be a snug fit for the same.
Prerequisites: Students should have a strong foundation in mathematics and science from their secondary education. A background in programming or computer science is beneficial but not mandatory, as foundational courses in these areas will be part of the curriculum. It is mandatory to have Math’s in Higher secondary.
Duration: The program is typically structured as a four-year undergraduate course.
Practical Experience: Yes, the program includes multiple opportunities for internships, practical lab work, and hands-on projects. Collaborations with hospitals, research centers, and industry partners provide students with real-world experience in medical engineering applications of AI and Data Science.
Interdisciplinary Learning: The AIDS (Medical Engineering) program integrates interdisciplinary learning by combining courses in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, and Medical Engineering. Students will work on projects that require knowledge from these diverse fields, promoting a holistic understanding and the ability to innovate at the intersection of these disciplines.
Research Opportunities: Students will have access to cutting-edge research opportunities in various fields such as computational biology, bioinformatics, medical imaging, and robotics. The program encourages participation in ongoing research projects, and students can also propose and pursue their own research interests.
