AIMS is the only institute who has developed a dedicated Medical Research Centre and it spans over 1.5 lacs sq.ft. area.
Medical Research Centre comprises of following departments which are distributed across seven floors of the Research Centre facility
The facility is spread across 10,000 sqft area which will harbor right from animal quarantine to animal house to minor operation theaters. The entire facility is equipped with Total fresh Air systems to ensure sterile ecosystem. Primarily it will be used for Pre-Clinical trials especially on Small animal’s viz. Mice, rabbits, guinea pig etc.
The facility shall be harboring state of the art Electron Microscopes. It will be utilized for obtaining high resolution images of biological and non-biological specimens. It is integrated with Diagnostic Electron Microscopic needs.
Research Centre has a dedicated mass spec facility which shall be catering to identify unknown compounds via molecular weight determination, to quantify known compounds, and to determine structure and chemical properties of molecules. It will be used for analyzing compounds from natural products which shall enable in finding of new metabolites of industrial interest.
Amrita Research Centre banks upon a huge Biorepository setup which will be utilized for Bio-banking and other essential sub-zero storages. It will be engaged in the collection, processing, storage, and dissemination of biological specimens. It will act as a library that stores and manages bio samples, for use in research. The facility will have state of the art Sub-zero storage containers which shall utilize liquid nitrogen for maintaining temperatures upto-186C.
Amrita research Centre has dedicated one floor for GMP labs which is spread across 15000 sqft area. The infrastructure is built with all GMP grade materials. It ensures products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is equipped with state of art equipment and instruments. The standards are designed to minimize the risks that cannot be eliminated through testing the final products. Amrita CGMP lab is compliant to all national and international standards viz. DCGI, AABB, AATB, ICMR and FDA. It will enable in the development of Bio-Therapeutics based on product.
The institute in addition to conventional Flow Cytometry also have state of the sorter. The cell sorter helps in isolating the cells of interest physically into separate collection tubes. FACS is frequently used in disciplines such as hematopoiesis, oncology, and immunotherapy. Further to it, FACS sorter has varied applications viz. Immunophenotyping, Cell cycle analysis, apoptosis, understanding the signal transduction pathways, cell proliferation pathways etc., which enables the scientific community to understand various functions.
The Genomics Laboratory is an integrated, high-throughput laboratory focusing on the development of genomics technologies, along with laboratory automation systems, data analytics, and high-end information management tools. The Genomics core lab focuses on integrated strategies using multiple state- of the art technology platforms. It enhances the value of clinical, research samples, and in turn lead to the identification of various pathways, genes, or gene products, responsible in the development of a disease, as well as the assembly of genetic or expression profiles for the identification of prognostic and diagnostic indicators. Lab harbors state of the art equipment like Digital Droplet PCR (ddPCR), Sanger sequencer and NGS.
