Abstract : Computer recognition of sign language and its conversion is an important research problem for enabling communication with hearing impaired people. Sign language (SL) recognition has always been a challenging problem for real practice, even though it has been explored for many years. The complex background and illumination conditions affect the hand tracking and make the sign language recognition and conversion very difficult. This project is to design and develop cost effective software which can convert sign language used by hearing and speech impaired people to a word document. This software has been conceived to provide quick information exchange between a hearing and speech impaired people and those around them who may not know sign language. Hence, this device is an excellent translator of sign language. © Research India Publications.
