On 17th of July 2019, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, heartily welcomed its new batch of students in a unique induction program titled “Swagatham 2019”. The day commenced with the lighting of the lamp by each of the new students and placing it at the feet of the statue of Saraswati Devi, Goddess of knowledge, an age-old tradition symbolizing the absence of darkness and ignorance in the light of knowledge.
The official inaugural function, conducted in the Amriteshwari Hall, commenced with the prayer and traditional lighting of the lamp. Dr. Bipin Nair, Dean, School of Biotechnology, addressed the gathering and welcomed the dignitaries and the new students. He spoke about the importance of Biotechnology and how it’s one of the “Sunrise Sectors” in India.
He motivated and encouraged the students to explore the new opportunities provided by the college. Swami Amritageethananda Puri, one of Chancellor Amma’s senior disciples, delivered the benedictory address and inspired the students with his words of wisdom.
The chief guest Dr. M. D. Nair, Consultant to the Pharmaceutical industry as well as the World Health Organisation, also addressed the audience and shared with the students his experiences in the biotechnology industry. He talked about the recent advances in the industry and how it is opening up new opportunities for the future generations.
The new batch of students were also introduced to the student club of the School of Biotechnology “CREATOME” by senior students. They were also informed about the global youth initiative, AYUDH.
Mr. Ajith M., Assistant Professor at the School of Biotechnology, delivered the vote of thanks. The inaugural function was concluded with the distribution of prasad by Swami Amritageethananda Puri to all the new students.
The informal session conducted by CREATOME and senior students paved a way for the freshers to interact and get acquainted with one another. Filled with dance, music and games, the programs provided the students with a glimpse of student life and the extracurricular activities they would be a part of in the years to come. Through the event, the School of Biotechnology initiated a new academic year and with it, welcomed the new talents to the Amrita family.
