The Annual Kerala State Student Convention of Computer Society of India (CSI) (Region VII) on the theme “Empowering Villages through Emerging ICTS” was conducted on October 30, 2014.
Bri. Bakthi Priyamrita Chaithanya, Principal, Amrita Vidyalayam, did the lighting of the lamp Lighting and Dr. U. Krishnakumar, Director, School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus, delivered the welcome address. The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. P. T. Mathew, Chief General Manager, Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) and felicitation was given by Sri. S. P. Soman, Regional Vice President (VII), Computer Society of India. Dr. M.V. Judy, Head of the Department, (CS & IT), proposed the vote of thanks.
A panel discussion on the theme was conducted. The panel of experts were Sri. V. T. Santhosh, General Manager, NICSI, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Sri. N. S. Ranganadhan, Competency Head, Wipro, Sri. P. R. Krishnanand, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The moderator was Prof. M. B. Santhosh Kumar, Professor and Head, Dept. of I.T., School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), presently the Secretary, CSI Cochin Chapter. About 100 participants including students and teachers from various colleges inside and outside Kerala registered and participated for the one-day convention. More than 300 CSI student members from within the campus also participated and did voluntary service. As part of the convention, few contests like ICT Quiz, Multimedia Contest [Poster Designing] and Web Designing were conducted. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates.
