Abstract : This work highlights the fabrication of a novel disposable and cost-effective pencil graphite electrode for the voltammetric analysis of the organic water pollutant resorcinol. The voltammetric analysis of resorcinol in water samples can be accomplished easily and precisely by using this method of resorcinol quantification. It was discovered that the sensor was selective and simple to use with the less expensive electroanalytical technique. Here, we developed a pencil graphite electrode modified with 3-nitro benzoic acid (PGE/p-NBA) as the sensor material for the determination of resorcinol by employing the differential pulse voltammetric method. The fabricated sensor is utilized to quantify the elevated level of resorcinol in well and tap water samples. The easiness of the electrode modification, the high sensitivity, 3.75 μA/μM/cm2, and the wide linear concentration range (1–300 μM) of resorcinol on the proposed sensor are discerned to be higher than previously published electrochemical sensors. The sensor exhibits remarkable selectivity against other water organic pollutants, particularly the dihydroxy isomers catechol and hydroquinone, with a low detection limit of 0.16 μM.
