A two-day workshop on Network Security Vulnerability, Assessment and Penetration Testing was held on January 4-5, 2016. The focus subjects included cybercrime and its effect in the real world, identifying and mitigating software security vulnerabilities in existing systems and applying tools and techniques to detect and analyze various attacks. The thrust of the workshop was on how a user can better secure his /her data, identify threats, and survive and recover from computer attacks.
The resource person at the workshop, Dr. Manish Kumar (MSRIT, Bangalore) created an interactive environment where the participants acquired an understanding of various computer and network security threats such as identity theft, credit card fraud, online banking phishing scams, virus and backdoors, e-mail hoaxes, loss of confidential information, hacking attacks and social engineering.
