  • The research lab focusses on being the top research contributor in the field. As of October 2023, the publication status of eye tracking research in India indicates that the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to be the top institution in publication contribution with members of the research group achieving the top position in the list.
  • Setup initiatives in the areas of Virtual Reality in Education and HealthCare and Brain Computer Interface
  • Dr. Amudha J., Core Committee member for MANAS Codeathon 2023, along with the tag team faculty mentors, guided more than 20 teams for MANAS app developed by CDAC.
  • In many rural parts of India, primary eye care centers do not have a screening test for glaucoma due to the cost of machines, technical skills required for technicians, and the work environment for placing devices and the whole system. We have generated a screening index for glaucoma based on the eye movements of patients while performing day to day tasks. Now we are working on larger data collection to improve the sensitivity of the experiment for which the prototype has been developed which can act as Screening Tool for Glaucoma Diagnosis in Primary Eye care Centre’s. A longitudinal study (progressive study) to understand alterations in eye movement patterns of an individual during various stages of glaucoma and how it is been affected during glaucoma treatment.
  • The project, titled “Comparison of Oculomotor Abnormalities in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease with and without Psychosis and the Impact of Deep Brain Stimulation: An Observational Eye Tracking Study,” was a collaborative effort with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. The study examined oculomotor behaviors in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) patients, specifically focusing on the differences between those with and without psychosis. The project made available a dataset of eye movement recordings from more than 40 Indian PD patients, collected using a high-frequency (1250Hz) SMI chin rest eye tracker. Machine Learning techniques were applied to analyze and provide valuable insights from this extensive dataset for the benefit of neurologists and researchers.
  • Prof. Amudha J. has initiated and established collaboration with Signed MoU with Karnataka Science and Technology Academy
