Abstract : For the present study, Cr3C2-20(NiCr) coating powder (Diamalloy 3007) was deposited on low carbon steel test coupons by pulsed detonation spray gun technique. Detailed characterization of the coating involving microstructural examination (SEM, TEM, porosity, phase analyses) and mechanical properties of the coating in the as-sprayed and heat treated conditions have been carried out. The improvement in the wear performance of the coating with heat treatment has been attributed to the increase in the hardness and the toughness of the coating which are being influenced by the microstructural changes occurring due to the high temperature exposure. It has been observed that structural changes occur both in the carbide particles and the NiCr binder material.
