Abstract : In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a precursor for predicting the onset of combustion instability in gas turbines through visualising the flame with the help of a fiber optic bundle and photomultiplier tube (PMT). The performance of such a flame visualization system is correlated with that of a conventional pressure transducer deployed in the combustion chamber.
