Abstract : In the present study, CeO2 nanoparticles modified with stearic acid (mCeO2) were synthesized using the magnetic stirrer and subsequently vacuum dried for 12 h (MN12) and 24 h (MN24). Three different weight percent concentrations (0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%) of each MN12 and MN24 nanoparticle are added to the base lubricating oil (SAE15W40). The physicochemical properties of the synthesized nano-lubricants are investigated, including saponification, acid, calorific, flash and fire point, viscosity, and thermal stability. The tribological characteristics of the synthesized nano lubricants were evaluated at varying loads and under extreme pressure conditions. The nano lubricant added with MN24 has superior performance over base lubricating oil.
