AMMA Lab as it is called, is an innovative hub for the confluence of ‘Bhartiya’ (Indianness) ‘Sanskriti’ (Culture) with nanotechnology, metallurgy and material science and engineering to intervene via policy and technology to develop and commercialize culturally aligned high moving consumer products. We, try to explore culture by understanding its philosophy, convert the understood philosophy to functional knowledge and finally create a technology, which is sustainable and self-resilient. Through our understanding and learning experience for the past 09 years, we have narrowed upon two resources of National importance- the dung of indigenous cattle and the metallic cookware of India. An ambitious programme of developing a dermal metallic silicate powder for general skin health from the dung of indigenous cattle is currently under peruse. This programme through its sequential synthesis and separation approach will aim to create a biorefinery based on the dung of indigenous cattle. This project is currently under funding from DST, GOI and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The second programme initiated in 2016 is to manufacture intermetallic’s based coated cookware for use in modular kitchen, with health and dietary benefits. Currently this programme is funded by DST-SHRI- GOI and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Apart from these frontline programmes, the lab focuses on the physics, magnetism and environmental remediation applications of semiconductors like ZnO. Pharmacognosy and naturaceuticals exploration for wound healing applications is another area of research under pursuit. The vast ocean of knowledge offered for study and research by the different branches of Indian Knowledge Systems is also actively pursued by the lab. The understanding of ‘Bhartiya Sanskriti’ is approached through this line of study.
