Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders have emerged as one of the major subspeciality in the field of neuroscience. With the availability of functional neurosurgery and device assited therapeutic tools rapid advancement have been made in the diagnosis, treatment and research in this field over last two decades. Unfortunately, there are only few centers (none in North India) to train Neurology residents/fellows in the field of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. With the start of this fellowship the selected candidates will be part of the Movement disorders team at the Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, Delhi National Capital Region, India which utilizes state-of-the-art technology and a world-class medical team to provide care to patients with a wide range of patients with hypo and hyperkinetic movement disorders. Fellows will be exposed to all aspects of movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Tourette and Paediatric Movement Disorders, Botulinum toxin injections, Deep brain stimulation surgery, Neurogenetics, and Neuro-palliative care
The Fellow will actively participate in the Functional Neurosurgery program in treating patients with Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia. He will learn selection of patients for surgery and pre- and post-operative assessments of patients with scales and videos. He will attend the Operation Theatre during the operations, and will also learn how to do target selection and later programming in case of DBS
