Design of Electrical Machines for Electric Vehicles
As the usage of Electric Vehicles (EV) is inevitable in the near future, the electric propulsion motor, which is an integral part, is considered one of the core technologies of EV. Among different electrical motors, induction motor (IM) and permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) are widely preferred by EV manufacturers. Since propulsion motor covers a significant portion of total EV cost, it is essential to optimize the design of electrical machines suitable for EV’s to match its speed-torque profile. Use of Finite Element Tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, ALTAIR Flux etc, for optimized design of electrical machines is inevitable now a days.
