Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, and Cochin Refineries School, Ambalamukal, Kochi, Kerala, conducted a one day coding camp for high school students, CodePRO, on 14 January, 2017. A similar workshop was conducted by Amrita School of Engineering faculty members for the high school teachers in November 2016. This workshop was a sequel to the one which was organized for teachers.
CodePRO was jointly inaugurated by Anup Kalbalia, Tech Lead from Directi, and Sujata Madhav, Project Head, TCS, Kochi. Anand Shenoi, Regional Contest Director for ACM ICPC, was also present on the occasion. Anup Kalbalia is the Tech Lead at Directi, handling the CodeChef platform, the online site to practice competitive progamming. The workshop focused on training the students to solve real life problems with the help of computer programming, algorithms and mathematics.
Hundreds of students from more than twenty schools in and around Kochi attended the workshop. Sessions were handled by the faculty members from Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri, and by Anup Kalbalia, Tech Lead from Directi. Students had the opportunity to understand how to utilize the power of the internet to improve their programming skills.
With thousands of materials on competitive programming, CodeChef continues to grow among the school and college students as the leading source for sharpening their programming skills. Competitive programming and problem solving are becoming the core in the IT industry with the growth of social media and big data analytics. The demand for competitive programmers is growing across the globe.
Amrita feels it is the need of the hour that students in Kerala sharpen their skills and hone their programming talents.
