Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, K. Chittilappilly Foundation and Indian Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases jointly organised “Lymphatic Filariasis Eradication Plan” for filariasis patients on January 28, 2017. Sri. Vellappally Natesan, S. N. Trust, General Secretary, inaugurated the function at S. N. College auditorium, Cherthala. Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, delivered the presidential address.
Filariasis has been a major public health problem of Kerala for centuries and Cherthala has been majorly affected by this disease. It is a disease of the poor and the manifestation is acute in the old age. Lack of awareness and negligence are the two major challenges faced. An important part of the meet was the distribution of free medical treatment kits and a demo class for severely disabled patients.
