A seminar titled, “Overview of Aircraft Electrical Systems”, was arranged by IEEE-PES and IAS joint student branch chapter, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, on July 22, 2016. The guest speaker was Mr. P. V. R. Saikiran, scientist at CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), India. The event was attended by the students of BTech and MTech of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Mr. Saikiran commenced by providing a brief introduction on aerospace related disciplines and R&D at NAL. The main focus was on the role of power electronics in the evolution of electrical systems in the aircraft.
Mr.Saikiran also talked about the standards used for an aircraft electrical power generation and distribution system. Alongside, a research work in power electronics done at NAL, was elaborated and he was kind enough to share with students some insightful information regarding internships and work opportunities at NAL. The session was a useful overview of electrical systems employed in aircraft and opportunities in the field.
