Bio

Dr. Aravind Madhavan serves as Assistant Professor at the School of Biotechnology. He joined the Amrita School of Biotechnology in 2022 from Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, where he worked as an ICMR- Young Scientist. He worked towards understanding the epigenetic regulation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in human macrophages. Dr. Aravind completed his post-doctoral studies also from Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. He worked as a Marie Curie fellow at the University of Naples, Italy, and the University of Jaen, Spain, where he contributed to the development of microbial cell factories by applying genetic and metabolic engineering tools in yeast and filamentous fungi. He obtained his Ph.D. from CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. His Ph.D. work was focused on the development of genetically/metabolically engineered filamentous fungal systems for the synthesis of therapeutically important proteins. He has about 75 publications/communications with an h- index of 20. He is a recipient of several awards and fellowships, including Visiting fellowship from AIST, Japan, Marie Curie Fellowship of European Union, DHR-ICMR Young Scientist Programme, DST-SERB- National Post-doctoral fellowship, DBT-Postdoctoral fellowship, Kerala Biotech Commission Post-doctoral fellowship, BRSI-MKU Genomics award 2021, DST-INSPIRE fellowship, KSCSTE Research Fellowship, CSIR-UGC-JRF, GATE, Best poster award (NHBT-2016). He is an editorial board member of Springer Nature’s Journal systems microbiology and biomanufacturing and associate editor of frontiers of microbiology. He also serves as the associate guest editor of the journal frontiers in bioengineering and biotechnology. He is a reviewer of more than 15 SCI journals. He also handled several funded projects from DBT, DST-SERB, and ICMR-DHR, Government of India.
Currently, Dr Aravind aims to devise strategies to combat Klebsiella pneumonia infection via host-directed therapy. Another focus of his research is to study the molecular pathogenesis of Klebsiella infections and investigate the mechanisms underlying Klebsiella interaction with the host immune cells and immunoevasion.
