Dr. Shantikumar V. Nair, Dean of Research, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and Director of Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine is awarded the IIT-Bombay Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2016. IIT Bombay confers the Distinguished Alumnus Awards (DAA) every year to those alumni who have reached positions of eminence in the areas of business, academics, research, government, public service, and entrepreneurship. The award was presented on IIT-Mumbai’s Foundation Day, on March 10, 2016, at its Campus, in recognition of Dr. Nair’s outstanding contributions as an academic leader and to the field of Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine.

Receiving the award, Dr. Nair explained, “I returned from the US in 2006, after 20 years as a faculty, inspired by Chancellor Amma, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, to serve my country because I saw how Amma was sacrificing her whole life to the service of humanity. The principle that career is not about self-gain, but about service to society, is an enduring lesson I learnt from Amma.”
