Abstract : Burnishing is a surface modification process for any kind of ferrous, non-ferrous and ceramic materials. It improves the smoothness of surface, increase micro hardness, wear resistance and fatigue resistance of the surface. In this study, peripheral surface of the workpiece has been targeted, which is rotated by means of lathe spindle. Roller is rotating and sliding on to the peripheral surface with some load. This experimental investigation is carried out on to the Aluminium-based alloy workpiece to investigate surface characteristics such as surface roughness and micro hardness before burnishing and after burnishing. There are three significant parameters such as speed, feed rate and number of tool pass have been contemplated. Box- Behnken design of experiment is opted for the purpose. The burnishing speed and number of pass are the most consequential parameter whereas feed rate has less effect on the surface roughness and micro hardness
