Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham enters into the quarterfinals of the South Zone Inter-University football tournament held at Amrita Coimbatore campus on 15th December, 2015. In a closely contested pre-quarter final match against Rayalseema University, Kurnool, Amrita won 5- 4 in a penalty shootout. Earlier the teams were locked at 1- 1 at the end of the stipulated time.
This is the second consecutive quarter final entry for Amrita and matched our best performance in football in inter-university tournaments. Last year, the Amrita team qualified for the quarter-finals at the last edition of the tournament at Calicut. In its march towards the quarterfinals, Amrita beat the teams, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli and Rani Channamma University, Belgaum. In other matches on day 6 of the tournament, University of Madras beat Jain University, Bangalore (5-0) and Kerala University, Trivandrum beat Kannur University (0-0), 4- 1 in penalty shootout. University of Madras and Kerala University have also qualified for the quarter-finals.
