The 66th Independence Day of India began with rain written all over it. The day also coincides with 7th anniversary of Amrita Sanjeevani. The flag hoisting was scheduled at 9:15 at the college entrance. The students of Amrita braved the rain to take part in Independence Day celebration followed by vallikavu and campus clean-up organized by Amrita Sanjeevani.
In spite of the rain, Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean , School of Engineering , Amritapuri Campus hoisted the National Flag followed by the National Anthem. After the celebration, students were divided into their spots irrespective of their branches and year. A total of around 200 students were divided into 6 spots covering the complete campus and vallikavu premises.
Each spot had coordinators from S3 who lead their juniors in the campaign. As soon as the rain stopped the groups dispersed to their respective spots. The students actively took initiatives and consequently contributed to the society. Strangers became friends and they worked hand in hand adding a new meaning to their lives.
The clean-up was over by 12pm spanning roughly 2 hours. The refreshments and juice were provided to the students after the clean-up. All the wastes collected were taken for sorting and recycling. In the end, students shared their experiences and left with a promise to serve their country in whatever way they could. This clean-up was surely an eye opener for them.
