Amrita Multi Modal Applications and Human Computer Interaction (Ammachi Labs) organized a four-day workshop on Basic Counseling from May 27-31, 2014 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s Amritapuri Campus for Ammachi Labs Deployment Team, Facilitators and student leaders of Women Empowerment Project. The workshop was an extension of the successfully concluded Women Empowerment (WE) Project co-funded by UNDEF.
Shri. Ashok Menon, Hon’ble Principal District and Sessions Judge inaugurated the workshop. Smt. Santha Kumari, Hon’ble Family Court Judge and Chairman District Legal Services Authority delivered the felicitation address. The program was presided over by Smt. Rajani Menon, Director, Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) in Idukki.
Nearly 3000 women from Kerala and Tamil Nadu had benefited from this employment oriented vocational training program for rural women. The participants of the workshop were those who had undergone training in various vocational skills, such as jewellery making, plumbing, fabric painting, etc. The workshop equipped the participants to act as counselors for women of their respective localities, providing them adequate knowledge of their rights and duties and enabling them to be a part of the decision making process.
Over 60 women from Kerala and Tamil Nadu attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted for participants and facilitators of the vocational training program provided by Ammachi Labs, to equip them with necessary social and legal knowledge that are required to provide counseling for the public.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory function held on May 31, 2014. Karunagappally Munsif and Chief First Class Magistrate Bijukumar and District Protection Officer Tahira Biwi graced the occasion.
