The 2007 Nobel Laureate Dr. Rajendra Pachauri visited the School of Biotechnology as a part of his visit to the Amritapuri Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, to inaugurate the Global Center for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsbility and Innovation.
Dr. Pachauri visited the different laboratories at the School of Biotechnology, and interacted with research scholars and the Faculty alike, discussing the various research projects that are ongoing at the School. Speaking with Mr. Ajith Madhavan on the “Microbial Fuel Cell,” Dr. Pachauri remarked that it was indeed a breakthrough to discover cost effective viable alternatives to replace the expensive platinium electrodes. Dr. Pachauri was also happy to learn about the efforts underway in the Phytochemistry Laboratory, under Dr. Asoke Banerji’s guidance, especially in the
Value addition to utilized / underutilized plants by isolating useful compounds.
Dr. Bipin Nair shared with Dr. Pachauri about the focus of the other groups at the School to develop low cost devices and diagnostics of societal impact as well as lead discoveries from natural sources.
