The Hematology and Bone Marrow division and Medical Oncology department at theAmrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) organized a CME on multidisciplinary approach to Hematological disorders, Amrita Hematocon 2014, on January 18, 2014. Over 200 delegates from various parts of the country participated in the seminar.
Sri. Manjalamkuzhi Ali, Honorable Minister for Urban Affairs and Welfare of Minorities, Government of Kerala, inaugurated the seminar and the new Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) lab at AIMS.
The CME saw expert sessions on topics related to hematology, hematological disorders, bone marrow transplantation, basic science and research. Eminent faculty including those who are renowned at the national and international level for clinical practice and research led the sessions.
Dr. Anand Deshpande, Consultant, Transfusion Medicine and Hematology, P. D. Hinduja National Hospitals and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai, spoke on Nucliec Acid Testing.A talk on Comprehensive Hemophilia Care was delivered by Dr. N. Vijayakumar, Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Ernakulam, Kerala.
Dr. Mathew Thomas, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences, Trivandrum spoke on the topic Puzzles in Hematology – Physician’s Perspective.
A session on Hematological Disorders in Pregnancy was led by Dr. Auro Viswabandya, Professor of Hematology, Christian Medical College, Vellore.
Topic on Bone Marrow Transplantationwas discussed by Dr. Neeraj Sidharthan, Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology,AIMS.Dr. Ajithkumar V. T., Professor of Paediatrics, Medical College, Kozhikode,Kerala, spoke on Medical Management of Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy.
