School of Medicine, Kochi
The Amrita School of Medicine is now listed in the Avicenna Directory for Medicine. Amrita joins over 150 other medical colleges from India that are also included in the Directory.
This Directory for Medicine named after an ancient renowned Persian physician and philosopher, includes latest information of all the world’s medical schools.
Building on information published in 2000, in the 7th edition of the WHO World Directory of Medical Schools, as well as updates submitted between 2000 and 2007, the Directory is meant to be up-to-date.
“All educational institutions providing a complete or full program of instruction leading to a basic medical qualification will be listed,” state the guidelines. “The qualification should permit one to practice as a medical doctor or physician …”
The Directory may well become an instrument to promote international collaborations. It will provide comprehensive information for potential students or staff wanting to learn about an individual school or faculty or about all schools in a particular country.
The University of Cophenhagen has the responsibility for developing the Directory and keeping it up-to-date, with the assistance of the World Federation for Medical Education, the World Health Organization and other partners.
Announced in March 2008, the Directories project aims to ultimately create web-based global listings of universities, colleges and schools for all academic professions in health, including medicine, pharmacy and public health.
Amrita’s other schools on the Health Sciences campus, including the Schools of Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy can also expect to find a place in this global listing.
