Abstract : Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) has become the recent innovative method to design and produce materials in a layer-by-layer manner. Looking at the expediency of economically manufacturing large-scale metal parts with comparative high deposition rates, symbolic advancement has made studying the WAAM technique, along with its challenges, types of the designed components. This paper overviews the upcoming research and developments on WAAM techniques and frequently used materials for the same. Common errors which occur during WAAM have been discussed in this paper, along with the advantages of WAAM. Alloys of aluminium play a key role in the marine, aerospace and automotive industries. Different series of aluminium alloys are used in different industries, which have also been discussed in this paper. Alloys belonging to the 5xxx and 6xxx series of aluminium is widely used in all marine industries. To conclude, areas to be focused in the future for the better advancement of this technology have been discussed.
