November 11 was a joyful interlude for students at the Mysore campus, which celebrated its Annual Day. Inspiring talks were followed by recognition for all achievers.
Dr. Raveesh B. N., Professor and Head, Mysore Medical College, was invited as the Chief Guest. He quoted Galileo, saying “You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself.”
“This address is one such small attempt to help you discover for yourself,” he told the students.
Dr. Raveesh’s detailed forty-minute presentation emphasized the close affinity of body, mind and spirit. Outlining several points on how to develop a healthy life style, he noted particularly the problems encountered during adolescence. “Have a focused goal,” he exhorted the audience.
Dr. Raveesh appreciated the community service initiatives of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, the parent body of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Swami Amritakripananda Puri delivered the benedictory address. Enlightening students on the importance of nature and nurture, he spoke about the role of institutions such as Amrita in helping build the character of the younger generation.
Swamiji quoted from Chancellor Amma’s examples of selfless service.
Recalling an incident from his personal experience, he stated, “One day, when I reached the ashram, I found Amma cleaning a septic tank.” After Amma called him, he joined her in the task.
“We should carry out a duty regardless of its standards,” he stated. “When work is worship, it binds us to the Almighty.”
“Every action of ours today, will determine our tomorrow,” he reminded the student listeners. “Spiritual, emotional and intellectual balance is required in your lives to achieve success.”
Prof. Prashant Nair’s, coordinator for Amrita’s Internal Quality Assessment Cell, spoke next. He inspired the gathering by sharing Chancellor Amma’s vision for making Amrita a world-class institution. “Mysore campus will be a torch bearer,” he stated.
He requested graduating students to keep in touch with Amrita after leaving its portals.
Prof. H.V. Nagaraj, Principal, Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, then presented the activities of the campus.
Students received awards for academic achievements as well as meritorious contributions in sports and co-curricular activities.
Winners of the recent Brain Bytes contest received recognition for their stellar performance.
Finally, the audience was treated to a delightful fusion of Indian Classical and modern music presented by campus students.
