The future of education has arrived and Amrita is at the forefront. The Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World (A-View) is an adaptable e-learning tool with no location constraints.
Providing multi-modal student-teacher interaction on a four screen display, students can simultaneously view the teacher video, the whiteboard, share live documents and participate in a common chat with logged-in users.
A-View was the featured learning technology presented on January 28 at the joint meeting of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME ICT) and BSNL South Zone management.
The meeting, held at the BSNL office building in Bangalore, was attended by over 100 distinguished guests representing universities and colleges throughout the zone, including many Vice-Chancellors and Registrars.
The meeting was chaired by Shri N. K. Sinha, Additional Secretary, MHRD, who updated representatives about the network connectivity BSNL will now provide for institutions of higher learning in India.
Emphasizing the value of the low cost, subsidized rate for 1GB of connectivity, Shri Sinha underlined, “All the universities should join this program. It will enable them to collaborate with their counter parts.”
Shri Sinha also stressed that this would allow universities to utilize the latest learning technologies. “It is a great opportunity to avail various services like A-View, which is being developed by Amrita.”
Prof. Kamal Bijlani detailed the A-View system capability and described how it was used by Dr. Phatak from IIT-Bombay, to recently conduct advanced classes for 1000 teachers all over India.
The meeting also highlighted other network tools, solutions and services that will be made available to colleges and students, free of charge.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, which has other projects funded by the NME ICT, was invited to present the advantages of these projects.
The presentations highlighted how Amrita is collaborating with other leading universities to work on initiatives such as SAVE, ERP and Virtual Labs. Increasing usage will provide the crucial solution to bridge the digital divide, while keeping costs at a minimum.
These are yet other Amrita innovations that are transforming the face of learning and changing lives.
