The Third National Conference on Recent Trends in Communication, Computation and Signal Processing (RTCSP), was organized during March 1-2 at Amrita’s Coimbatore campus. It was hosted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Now recognized as one of India’s most popular events on the subject, the conference’s theme for this year was, Technology for Nation Building.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Wipro Technologies, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE).
Original research papers were invited prior to the conference. Applicants were encouraged to submit their work on ultra large scale and monolithic microwave integrated circuits, high level computational techniques and embedded technologies.
A monumental 417 papers were received from 113 cities and 17 states nation-wide. The selected papers numbered 121; these underwent elaborate scrutiny and peer review. The acceptance ratio of 29.01% was on par with the best IEEE conferences organized internationally.
Research scholars and industry experts from India’s leading universities and IT companies presented papers in tracks that included: Communication, Image Processing, Speech Processing, Soft Computing, Wireless Systems, Wireless Networks, Microelectronics, Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering.
While attending RTCSP at Amrita, participants shared views and research to advance communication engineering and signal processing technology for nation building. The 300+ participants were encouraged to delve into the event’s cutting-edge communication and computation topics.
Two keynote lecturers spoke. Mr. V. Varadarajan, Defence Research and Development Organization, Bangalore, discussed Microelectronics Design for Defense Applications and Mr. S. Balaji, Project Manager, Robert Bosch, Coimbatore, examined automotive electronics and the future of automobile technology.
Mr. Varadarajan also released a special issue of RTCSP Conference Proceedings, Volume 3, Issue 1 of ELECTRON – The Technical Report of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ISBN: 978-81-921211-2-3).
The conference emphasized the growing value of communication engineering and signal processing techniques in academia and industry. The latest developments in highly efficient communication systems for critical applications like aerospace, defence, satellite, launch vehicles, mobile devices and heavy industries were featured.
As a prelude to RTCSP, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers sponsored a student project contest on February 25, 2011. Prize winners received complementary admission to RTCSP.
Amrita once again united academia and industry to turn differences into assets that benefitted all.
