A book titled Security Analysis and Investment Management co-authored by an Amrita faculty was recently published. 1023 copies of the book have already sold.
Intended to serve as a text-book for MBA students, the book details various investment avenues, their characteristic features and market valuation of investment vehicles. Models for combining securities and measuring their performance are also discussed.
Relevant examples from Indian stocks markets are included. “We tried to make the concepts clear and the matter interesting by including examples from our country, rather than borrowing examples from foreign contexts,” explained Dr. E. Meera, who collaborated with Prof. Punithavathy Pandian, Department of Commerce, Madurai Kamaraj University on the book.
The book comprises 10 chapters. Dr. Meera and Prof. Punithavathy jointly worked on Chapters 1 and 5. For the rest, Dr. Meera wrote Chapters 4, 6 and 7, while her co-author penned Chapters 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10.
“Chapter 4 explains the markets for securities and the trading mechanism that helps investors liquidate their investment,” shared Dr. Meera. “Apart from that, market representative indices are also explained in detail. The growth in the mutual fund industry and the various advantages the industry offers are also discussed in this chapter.”
“The investor and analyst undertake to value financial securities in order to find out if the securities are under priced or over priced so that the right investment decision can be made. The valuation of securities is discussed after examining the nature and scope of different securities in the Chapter 6. This chapter also covers credit rating of securities.”
“The return to risk and investment decision is based on the certain combination of various investment avenues and therefore we look at the benefit of combining securities in Chapter 7. The evaluation of portfolio performance and different active and passive management strategies of equity and bonds are also discussed in this chapter.”
The book published by Rohtak, Vikas Publishing House Pvt. Ltd, Noida, UP is priced at Rs. 175. It is prescribed as a textbook for MBA students of the distance education program of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana.
“I think this book will help hundreds of those students who can’t attend regular MBA programs,” she added. “We have tried to consolidate the topics and information in the book and make it as self-explanatory as possible for students.”
Always at the forefront of helping others, Dr. Meera has taught at Amrita for thirteen years. Having published research papers in national and international journals, Dr. Meera has also authored two books on investments. She feels proud to be part of Amrita.
