School of Engineering, Amritapuri
It is the one day in the year when all Schools and Departments at the Amritapuri campus come together to celebrate and honor the year-long successes and accomplishments of students, faculty and staff.
Campus Day, this year, saw a large number of individuals receive Certificates of Appreciation. Among faculty, those who had published research papers, obtained research grants or otherwise contributed to knowledge creation were among the ones thus honored.
Prof. Kamal Bijlani received the Award of Excellence for his A-View system, now being promoted by the Government of India as the default platform to connect all universities and colleges nation-wide. Among students, Nikhil Krishnan, with an all-India GATE rank of 4 and 100 percentile, and V. Ramakrishnan Kamath, who was chosen by SAE as the best student in South India received Awards of Excellence.
In addition, faculty and staff members who completed a decade of uninterrupted service were recognized and honored.
“You should consider yourself extremely fortunate for studying or teaching here,” Guest of Honor, Sri. K. Jayakumar (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala, reminded those seated in the audience.
“This is not an ordinary institution; it is unique and quite distinct from any other institution. You are blessed because Amma’s love and benevolence are the corner stones here.”
Concurring with this view, Guest of Honor, Sri. E. Nandakumar, Executive Director, BPCL, Kochi Refineries expressed his thoughts.
“I am most impressed with the facilities, the faculty and the students here,” he said.
Earlier, Dr. S. Krishnamurthy, Registrar, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham had proudly listed out the awards and accolades received by the institution during the previous year.
In keeping with Amrita’s multi-campus, multi-disciplinary nature, this list included not only honors received by the Amritapuri fraternity, but by students and faculty at all campuses.
Amritapuri campus was zealously celebrating the successes of its sister campuses!
Finally Dr. K. Sankaran, Principal, Amrita School of Engineering presented the Annual Report. Noting that an average of 99% of the graduating students in the School of Engineering were already placed, he also proudly shared such remarkable statistics from the other Schools.
“All students of the the first batch in Ayurveda who completed their internship training and who received their degrees of Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medical Sciences (BAMS) were placed in various reputed Ayurvedic institutions throughout the nation,” he said. “Three were selected as guest lecturers in Govt Ayurvedic Colleges.”
“Final-year MBA students are placed with reputed companies in India and abroad with an average annual salary of Rs. 3.76 lakhs.”
“Two of the top biotech companies in India, Biocon (Bangalore) and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (Hyderabad) recruited Amrita students. An M.Sc. student was also recruited by the world’s top biotech company, Genentech in USA.”
The event also marked the official release of the campus magazine Amritakshari. Cultural programs that included song and dance performances by students of Arts and Sciences, Ayurveda, Biotechnology and Engineering brought the event to a close.
