School of Engineering, Amritapuri
What do engineering students do after they graduate with a B.Tech. degree from Amrita?
Many begin a career with a company of their choice. Leading national and international firms recruit Amrita students through campus placements.
This year, graduating students are placed in companies such as Caterpillar, Cisco, Honeywell, IBM, Microsoft, National Instruments, SAP, Toyota, Accenture, Ford, Titan, Cognizant, HP, Infosys, L&T, Wipro and MindTree.
While many will enter the corporate world and begin their professional careers, many others will also embark on a different track altogether. Motivated by a love for learning and research, they will seek to pursue higher studies.
At Amrita, even undergraduate students are provided substantial exposure to research projects. Small wonder then, that many of the brightest students in the class are inspired by the challenge that scientific research offers.
These students continue to excel wherever they go, bringing laurels to Amrita.
Take for example, students of the Amritapuri campus, who graduated with a B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering last year.
Six of these students are class toppers in their respective graduate classes at the best national and international universities viz. NIT Rourkela, Vellore Institute of Technology, Manipal Institute of Technology and University of Cincinnatti, USA.
With near perfect CGPAs, Venkat Krishnan, Chitra R., Gayathri Gopakumar, Aparna Raja, Shekhil Hassan and Vineeth Sarma, all B.Tech. (ECE) 2010 graduates from Amrita, have much to say about the training they received at Amrita.
“When I joined the University of Cincinnati, I understood how much my Amrita courses and lab sessions had helped me,” stated Venkat Krishnan, currently pursuing an M.S. in VLSI on an annual scholarship of $ 19,413.
Venkat has a CGPA of 4/4 at the US university. His VLSI related courses at Amrita such as CMOS Integrated Circuits, VLSI Circuit Design, Computer Architecture, USB Implementation and Advanced Digital Design definitely helped him gain a head start. At Amrita, he also received training in software and tools such as Synopsys, Magic and Xilinx which are used at the best universities around the world.
“Most of all, the values that were instilled in us there are helping me succeed here,” he summed up.
Classmate Gayathri Gopakumar, who is pursuing an M.Tech. degree in VLSI Design at the Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu, and is at the top of her class there with a CGPA of 9/10 agreed whole-heartedly.
“Choosing the Amritapuri campus for my B.Tech. in ECE was one of the best decisions I ever made,” she emphasized.
Aparna Raja and Shekhil Hassan, both at the Manipal Institute of Technology, are also at the top of their respective classes, of M.Tech in Microelectronics and M.S. in VLSI CAD.
“We enjoyed a high level of exposure to the subject through research papers and projects; this provided an excellent base for our graduate studies,” stated Shekhil.
“The excellent lab facilities helped me improve my practical knowledge. It was through the lab sessions that our fundamentals were built well,” added Aparna.
“The kind of support that we received from our faculty was beyond compare,” Shekhil elaborated. “I still cherish my memories at Amrita and I miss the environment that we had while studying there.”
