Abstract : LM13/15 wt. % TiS2 metal matrix composite (MMC) was fabricated by stir casting method and its abrasive wear characteristics were tested on the dry abrasion tester. The tribological characteristics of the MMC were analysed using Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array by varying process parameters such as load (26, 31, 36 N), speed (100, 150, 200 rpm) and time (280, 300, 420 s) for three levels. It is inferred from results that wear rate increased as the load increased due to higher contact pressure. When speed is increased, wear also increased because of accumulation of heat on the surface. Whereas when abrading time is increased, the trend is decreasing because of oxide layer formation. Analysis of variance and S/N ratio shows that the load is the most significant parameter on wear rate abide by speed and abrading time. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the wear mechanism of worn out surfaces. EDAX and XRD confirm the oxidation of aluminium.
