Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign and 12 day hunger strike inspired a nationwide protest. The youth also contributed their voices to support the cause.
India will no longer be in the hands of corrupt politicians.
Instead, tomorrow’s India will be in the hands of today’s youth who are sensitive to national issues and will not fail to shoulder their responsibilities.
As a mark of their commitment, student communities from across the nation demonstrated in support of the anti-corruption campaign.
Joining the movement, students from the Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore made a silent procession with candles in their hands on August 25 after sunset. They stood as a symbol of a bright India in the future where there would be no malpractices.
“It has been over 60 years since independence and in this time corruption has eroded our growth in all fields,” stated procession organizers Swathi and Shyam, both third year students of B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering).
“Now the entire nation has risen up in support of a movement against corruption. As citizens of India we had to do something. So, we organized this peaceful, non-violent candlelight march.”
Assembling at the main grounds of the campus, like anti- corruption soldiers, almost 2000 students lit their candles and remained until 6.45 p.m.
Faculty and staff members also participated together with their families at the invitation of Dr. M. P. Chandrasekharan, Dean – Engineering.
Together the entire campus fraternity expressed their solidarity with the anti-corruption wave that was spreading through the country, echoing the democratic sentiments of the entire nation.
The march came to an emotional end with all students raising their candles during the National Anthem and chanting “Jai Hind.”
“The procession was organized in only one day and the response was fantastic. We are very proud to be a part of this event,” summed up Swathi and Shyam.
