Saranya Damodaran, MBA student at the Amrita School of Business, was recently honoured with a Young Entrepreneur Award by the Entrepreneur Development Cell of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai.
She was recognized for her serial entrepreneurial initiatives which resulted in bringing together students in the service of other students.
Her entrepreneurial ventures were also acclaimed by the Coimbatore Rotary Club which feted her as the Best Youth Member in Coimbatore.
Below, she describes her entrepreneurial journey in her own words.
I was born in Coimbatore and I studied at the National Model Matriculation Higher Secondary School. I was an active member of the district throw ball team
I obtained an undergraduate degree in engineering from Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore.
It was in the second year of my engineering studies that I started an initiative called Covai User Group with nine of my friends. It was completely driven by students, for the students. A cross-cultural platform, the user group enabled any student or groups of students to post novel ideas, conduct technical seminars, even workshops and competitions.
We had a humble beginning with about 30 users. Now the strength is 1,500 and counting.
Buoyed by the entrepreneurial spirit, in the third year of my studies, I founded Technocrat Solutions. Today our company has nearly 250 student employees from both IT and non–IT disciplines. We organize training programs to enhance technical skills and also provide guidance for student projects.
People ask me why I started these initiatives. I was inspired by a desire to help others. My friends helped me begin both ventures. Even today, we regularly conduct meetings and are in touch with each other via emails.
I feel very passionate about being an entrepreneur. I also nurture the dream of becoming an IPS officer.
I am very glad to have received admission to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Here I am able to interact with many distinguished faculty members. Their guidance and classes are helping me further hone my entrepreneurial skills.
