Abstract : Li-ion battery packs are preferred because of its high power density which perfectly suits in the application of EVs (Electric Vehicles). These Li-ion (Lithium ion) cells in the pack, when charged or discharged will not be in the equal State of Charge (SOC). Also, an overcharged Li-ion cell has a threat of explosion and an undercharged cell loses its power capability. In order to overcome these drawbacks the concept of active charge equalization is implemented with a flyback dc-dc converter, which is designed and implemented in uni-directional and bidirectional topology. Simulation results are validated in MATLAB.
