To understand the pathophysiology of critical illness causing organ dysfunction in children, train the fellows in using clinical signs, point of care ultrasound assessment and investigation reports to plan and execute the management of organ dysfunction in children, to train the fellows to safely perform intubation , insertion of invasive lines and other critical care procedures in ICU , to learn the principles and practice of mechanical ventilation and extra corporeal organ support, orientation in critically analyzing and performing research in Paediatric critical care.

The PICU at Amrita institute, Faridabad is best poised to provide high quality training in this field. This will be beneficial to increase the number of trained pediatric intensivists in the region with the goal of eventually improving care of critically ill children in the region and country.

There are many hospitals in private and public sector in India which have recognized the need for PICUs and are starting new PICUs. This has led to a high demand for Pediatric intensivists in different parts of the country. An outgoing student has the option of joining any of the newly developing PICUs in the country or continuing further specialized training in Australia, UK or Canada. In fact pediatric critical care is further evolving to highly specialized areas of expertise – including transplant PICU, nephron PICU, cardiac PICU to name a few. The course will be beneficial to lay a strong foundation for those who wish to further specialize in any of these areas.
