MBA students attended the All Kerala CSR Conclave and Annual CSR Awards 2018 conducted by Kerala Management Association (KMA) at Le Meridien, Maradu, Kochi. Around 200 invitees including Government officials, entrepreneurs, stakeholders, and representatives from various institutions, private industries and NGOs were present at the event. The conclave was a platform to showcase CSR excellence of corporate farms and NGOs. The speakers at the event discussed the responsibility of corporates to society and highlighted the CSR initiatives undertaken. The students benefited immensely from their presentations as well as subsequent informal interactions.
A soft skill workshop was held by Ms. Sulakshana Unnikrishnan(Clinical Psychologist, Sanjivani Multispeciality Hospital, Chengannur) on 29-June-2018 where the students learned important life skills to help them in their daily life, studies and career. Specially designed for MBA students with relevant themes, the workshop covered a wide array of topics like social media addiction, attention span improvement, stress management and eating disorders.
At Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi campus, students find various opportunities to learn from the industry experts. On 23-6-2018, Senior management professional Mr. B Balakrishnan spoke to the students on “MBA- Basics”- Operations, Materials Management, Procurement & Supply Chain. He has thirty-five years of managerial experience across various domains. His prime focus during the session was on the information system, market and customer behavior along with performance, environment, and competition in the market. He also briefly explained the attributes of MBA, leadership skills, ethics, trends in the market and their influence on business management.
This year, on International Yoga Day (21st June), students of Amrita MBA Programme participated in a Yoga training session co-organised by Amrita Yoga under the auspices of Ministry of Ayush at Regional Sports Centre, Kochi. The event was inaugurated by Shri. Anant Kumar Hegde, Hon. Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, who addressed the gathering describing the benefits of yoga to combat the stress of daily life. The yoga techniques that the students learned there were aimed at staying fit with simple exercises that can be practiced daily.
Budding managers of Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi Campus, had the opportunity to attend a session by Mr. Vincent N.P (Chief people officer, Suyati Technologies) on impact and use of digital transformation for students pursuing MBA. With his expertise in human capital management solutions, sourcing personnel with skills suiting business requirements, talent management, employee relations, conflict management, and profound understanding of the finer nuances of employment laws, Mr Vincent is a motivational speaker. The insightful talk by Mr. Vincent (on 19th June 2018) was a comprehensive discussion on various aspects like basics of digital transformation, how and why the MBA graduates should upgrade themselves to be in pace with digital transformation, the importance of subjects like Economics and Mathematics and the essence of reading business magazines for MBA graduates.
The students who completed their MBA course at Amrita University MBA Programme, Kochi campus, are now ready to play the next innings of their life. And it is farewell time. Wishing them success and prosperity in their chosen paths, students, faculty and staff members of the organization spent some special moments with them on the day of the farewell meeting.
Taking a break from the hectic schedules of management studies, students (Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi Campus) participated in various indoor and outdoor sports events and competed with each other for fun and excitement. It was a nice opportunity for the students to show their prowess as sportsmen.
Initiating research thinking among students, to compete in this ever-evolving arena of managerial skills is the need of the hour for any organization providing professional courses like MBA. Keeping in pace with the competition, Amrita University MBA programme, Kochi, organized a session by Dr. Vijayamohanan Pillai. N (Associate Professor, Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram)- senior researcher and econometrics for the students on 8-2-2018. The session was on Applied Regression and Dr. Vijayamohanan shared extensive knowledge on how to apply statistics in real life problems which was helpful for the students to be creative in their professional and decision-making abilities.
Management studies and entrepreneurship are closely associated with each other, and MBA students must be aware of various aspects of entrepreneurship during their education. Taking a session on “Making Dreams to Reality” at Amrita MBA PRogramme, Kochi Campus, Kerala’s noted industrialist, Mr. Christo George, Chairman & Managing Director, Hykon India Pvt Ltd., talked to the students about the tricks and techniques of converting wishes to goals and challenging the traditional set of beliefs to achieve new highs. The thought-provoking session was organized on 5-2-2018 and was useful for the students to know the mechanism of honing their managerial skills to build entrepreneurial skills.
Before the commencement of the 7th edition of Asthra- The International Symposium, there were some precursor events that not only drove the attention of the target audience to the main event but also provided a platform for the students to participate in social activities. ‘Vidya- Learning with Fun’, a prelude to Asthra, the flagship event of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Department of Management, emerged as a knowledge sharing session for the students who participated in the event.
The two-day event was supported by SWASTI team (health and wellness initiative of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi) and around 20 students from Al Farookhia School, Ellamakara Govt. High School and Amrita Vidyalayam attended the event with the consent of the school authorities. The first day of the event covered aptitude, quiz and games. The events of the second day were focused on dilemmas of students from 8th to 12th standards regarding building the foundation for their higher education. Apart from guidance on choosing the right streams for higher education, the session also focused on improving the aptitude and communication skills of the students, and guiding them to lead a healthy lifestyle. The second day of the event was also an attempt by the SWASTI team to create awareness on health and obesity, drugs, depression among students and social connectedness
Professor Sunanda Muralidharan, Chairperson, MBA programme, Kochi, briefed the audience about ASTHRA and the pre-ASTHRA events. Dr. Valsaraj Menon, Additional Medical Superintendent of Amrita Institute of Medical Science inaugurated the function. He also appreciated the MBA students for their efforts to inspire the young generation and widen their knowledge in various aspects of life. The faculty coordinator of ASTHRA Dr. MuraleVenugopal also addressed the audience and spoke about Vidya as a platform to enhance the skills of the students.
The Department of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi (DOM- Kochi), organized a colloquium for the management students on the topic on ‘Career Building’ on October 13, 2017. The session was handled by Mr. C. A. Jayaprasad Ramakrishna, Financial Controller in Papua New Guinea (PNG) of QBE Insurance.
He addressed the students, who are from diverse educational backgrounds, on the diverse career choices and career opportunities for MBA students.
In the ending session, he invited questions from students and provided ample opportunity for them to clear their doubts on their respective domain of interest.
In an endeavor to protect and contribute to Mother Earth, the students of Department of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi Campus (DOM-Kochi), planted saplings on November 1, 2017, the day which is celebrated as ‘Kerala Piravi Dinam.’ The noble act was performed as part of the outreach event, ‘Prana’, a prelude to the flagship event of Asthra 2017, the International Symposium organized by Department of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi Campus. The inaugural function of the programme was held at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi, Kerala. Dr. Abdul Ghani, a social activist, who is known as ‘the Green Man of India’ was the Guest of Honor and Mr. C. N. Mohanan, Chairman of Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) was the Chief Guest for the day. The inaugural function inspired the audience and boosted the spirit of the students with the insightful address of the invited guests.
The students selected the theme of “Plant a Sapling” and took the meaningful theme to the next level by planting saplings inside the stadium premises and some other selected places. The faculty members and staff members of Department of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus, accompanied Amrita students to S. R. V. Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam and Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Ernakulam, where they planted saplings inside the school premises and distributed saplings to school children with the consent of the school authorities to promote the campaign.

Her love towards humanity is reflected on the faces of people who are pure at heart. A visit to Amrita Institute for Differently Abled (AIDA) will definitely changes one’s perception towards disability. As part of Social Outreach programme in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Department of Management, Kochi, students, faculty and staff members visited ‘Amrita Institute for Differently Abled’ on 17th August 2017 and spent quality time with the students and teachers of the institute. MBA students of Kochi campus developed a different view towards life and understood their share of responsibility towards the society. The fund collected from the students, faculty and staff was donated to the institute to buy physiotherapy equipment for treatment of children with special needs. The sight of innocent children trying to please everyone with their dancing and singing talents was beyond comparison.
Managing an organisation is a skill that one can hone by pursuing a course on management. But the true strength of a manager is accomplished only by understanding his social responsibility too.. On 6th July 2017, Sri. K. Sathyan (District Judge), currently Member Secretary, Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA), functioning at the High Court of Kerala, addressed our budding managers and guided them on how to be “socially responsible” as managers. His session emphasized the point that the students should pay their dues back to the society once they are able to create their own identity .
In the recent years, when students are spoiled for choices to choose the right career, accurate and timely guidance makes a world of difference to their life. On 14th July 2017, Mr. Salil Pillai, Senior Manager – Customer success, Middle east & Gulf,Software-As-A-Service Suite, Oracle, guided and shared his thoughts on career choice to the students at Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi. He expressed his views on recent technological advancements and their influence on the students’ choice of career. His emphasis on ‘Personality’, ‘Perseverance’ and ‘Passion’ showed new dimensions to the students to opt for the right career. An analysis of following the trends in choosing career and going with the passion was the most useful part of the session.
Apart from training the students on the specific topic from their programme, at Amrita, it is believed that inspiring the students to deal with practical situations in life to stay afloat in various competitions is equally crucial to garner success. On 13th July, Mr. Varghese Cherian, Director, Osmosis Australia, discussed various phases of life that individual can make use of to bring a quality twist in life and reach the competitive edge to carve a niche in the society. A part of the session was also a comparative study of the culture, professionalism and educational variation between India and Australia.

Guru Purnima being one of the most important festivals to adore the relationship between Guru and disciples, students, faculty and staff of Amrita MBA Programme Kochi, participated in the Guru Purnima celebration in the campus. With rituals of Guru pooja and Matru pooja, the function celebrated the glory of paying respect to gurus and mothers.

On 8th July 2017 students of Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, had an opportunity to attend a session titled “INDIAN TRADE AND ITS GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE” led by Mr. Amlan Ray, Head , Education Business – Jain TV, New Delhi. He discussed the importance of International Business for developing countries like India. He also discussed the contribution of Indian trade in global market during three phases of India’s history- the period before British rule, during British rule and post-independence era.
Success in career being the ultimate goal for students pursuing professional programs, at Amrita MBA programme, Kochi students are regularly encouraged and trained to brush up their skills to achieve their desired goal in their career. This time, on 27th June, students had an opportunity to learn the skills of successful career from Mr. Madhu V Ganesh, Country Head India/Bangladesh and Sri Lanka of VICI, who discussed the crucial points that are essential for the students to scale new heights in their career. The topic of the day was “Skills and Aptitude for a Successful Career”, and Mr. Madhu V Ganesh shared different aspects of his 32-years of experience and how soft skill helped him shape his career. Along with that, in the session, he discussed the importance of positive attitude to face challenges.
A Session For Health Management
Commemorating the International Yoga Day, that the whole world celebrates irrespective of religion and nationality, students of Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi campus, attended the yoga session, led by eminent personalities, at the Regional Sports Centre, Kochi on 21st June 2017. The previous day, the students had participated in an elaborate session of Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM) techniques in the campus. Reaping the benefits of yoga in the day-to-day life and enhancing the inner power of the students to incorporate it for their academic success is the motive behind introducing students to yoga sessions.
It was a privileged occasion for the students at Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, to widen their perspective in Logistics when Mr. Lenny Abrao, Group Director – Abrao group of companies, explained the basic concept of Logistics to the students along with supply chain management and transport logistics management. He also explained 3PL (Third Party Logistics), the global scenario in the fields of logistics, the technologies involved in logistics, logistics in India and its opportunities in the insightful session held on 19th June.
The first year students had an opportunity to be a part of a seminar on “Indian Economy and The Economic Survey 2017-18″, co-organised by the Kerala Economic Association and the Department of Economics, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam. The major highlight of the event was the session by Dr. Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, with whom the students had an excellent interaction and could clarify their doubts regarding various macro economic aspects .Other speakers included Dr. M. A. Oommen, Senior Economist, and Dr. S. Irudaya Rajan, President of KEA.
Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, is fortunate to have Prof. Staffan Lindberg, Professor Emeritus in Sociology, Lund University, engage in an interactive session with students and faculty. He is a sociologist with 50 years’ experience of research on contemporary social change in India. He discussed various aspects of traditional and modern universities and education, emphasizing on the importance and advantages of research orientation. He also shared his viewpoints on the influence of science in present day industries. Additionally, he threw light upon the strengths and challenges of the Indian social system from the experiences he accumulated through his research.

Hence, as part of Social Outreach activities, Students and faculty members of Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, visited ‘Amrita Institute for Differently Abled’, at Vallummel, Kochi on 19th January 2017, under the guidance of Dr. N.R. Menon. They spent time with the students and inmates there, who exhibited their talents in dancing, singing and acting. The symposium was aimed at providing a platform for the students and participants to expand their awareness about the increasing importance of the analytics domain. As a prelude to ASTHRA, the well-renowned International Symposium conducted by Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi scheduled to be held on 9th December, 2016, the students of Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi organized a blood donation camp ‘PRAANAH’ at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) campus on 4th November, 2016. Prof. Sunanda Muralidharan, Chairperson, MBA Programme Kochi, welcomed the gathering and lauded the students for this thoughtful initiative. Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, AIMS, Kochi inaugurated this camp and highlighted the important role of blood donors in saving precious lives. The camp received a very good response with many donors participating in this noble cause.
Onam Celebration, at Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, was celebration of festivity, colors, joy and rich tradition of ‘Onam’. The eventful day began with ‘Pookalam’ competition and followed by prayer, message from Chairperson, dance performance by students, games, and traditional ‘Onasadya’. The faculty and other staff members also participated in the events and enjoyed the day. On and off-stage performance of the students were worth watching.
Omkara Cultural Fest witnessed the enthusiasm, versatile talents and spirit of students at Amrita MBA Programme, Kochi, who celebrate and participated in the occasion with gusto at Shri Krishna Hall on 24th August 2016. On and off-stage competitions such as solo and group dance, singing, mime, face painting, etc. were conducted that not only provided opportunities to the students to prove their talents but also created unforgettable moments for everyone.
Students of Amrita MBA Program, Kochi, attended the IAM (Integrated Amrita Meditation) session at the Shree Krishna Hall, Amrita MBA, Kochi campus on 15th July 2016. Mr. Vinod Kumar K, Director- Project Delivery, Amrita Technology, AmritaPuri, explained the benefits of IAM- meditation and shared necessary information about the IAM techniques with the students. IAM is a strategically designed practice that combines yoga, pranayam and meditation to create wonderful effect on body and mind. The IAM techniques are customized to manage the modern-age stress as the traditional methods of yoga and meditation are blended together to strengthen one’s inner power. The students found the session to be informative, and the unique meditation techniques to be effective.
Amrita MBA Program, Kochi Campus added another feather to its cap as it was chosen by McGrawHill Education (MHE) to launch the first-ever ‘McGraw Hill SmartBook Champions’ award. The ‘SmartBook Champions’ award honors the top performing students of courses based on the innovative SmartBook platform from McGraw Hill Education. The MBA Programme at Kochi campus stands out as the first within Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to adopt a SmartBook from MHE. Dr. Vivek Menon, Associate Professor, successfully introduced the SmartBook ‘M: Information Systems, 3/e, by Paige Baltzan’ for the Management Information Systems (MIS) course during the period from January- March 2016 for MBA 2015-2017 batch. In the event held on July 14, 2016, Mr Girish Srinivasan, Director- Sales for Higher Education & Professional Division, McGraw Hill Education, distributed the prizes to the winners of the inaugural edition of ‘McGraw Hill SmartBook Champions’ series. Ms. S. Revathi Nair emerged as the SmartBook Champion for the MIS course and received a special trophy and certificate of appreciation. Mr. Sreejit K., Ms. Veena M., Mr. Suraj K., Ms. Surya Suresh and Ms. Nidhina P. received certificates of appreciation. On this occasion, Mr. Girish Srinivasan expressed his pleasure for interacting directly with the students for the first time. The prize distribution ceremony was followed by an interactive session between the faculty members and MHE team where they had a discussion on future use of SmartBook for MBA program.
Alumni Meet “SMRITHI” was conducted in a grand manner at ASB-Kochi Campus on 12th December 2015. All the MBA batches of ASB, Kochi were represented.
Dr. N. Gopalakrishnan (Director of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage) spoke to the students of ASB, Kochi on the significance of leading a useful, purposeful, fruitful and meaningful life. He also emphasized the relevance of observation and listening for MBA students.

Students, Faculty and Staff members from Amrita MBA Program, Kochi, took part in the Gurupurnima celebration at the AIMS campus, Kochi on 19th July 2016. “Guru” shows the right path; bridges the gap between soul and the divine, ignorance and knowledge. Gurupurnima is an occassion to adore the presence of God around us in the form of ‘Guru’. Students also performed “Matrupuja” on this occasion to worship the first ‘Guru’ of one’s life.
The Good-Health Lesson
On the occasion of ‘International Yoga Day’, the 1st year students of the Amrita MBA Program, Kochi, participated in the event organized at Regional Sports Centre, Kochi. The program was inaugurated by Union Minister Hansraj Gangaram Ahir and attended by people from all walks of life. Students were introduced to different yoga practices and their positive impacts on health.
ASB Kochi campus celebrated Onam at campus by performing Thiruvathira, Floral competition, pulikali, and various other cultural programmes related to onam added glits to the celebration. The whole day long programmes ended with a very delicious Onasadya.
B-Fest
Omkara Business Fest was held from 27/10/2015 to 29/10/2015. The energy- packed event saw the students of ASB, Kochi compete among themselves as four teams in seven management games, each with challenging multiple rounds. The Business Fest came to a close with the Best Manager Contest. The event was a great opportunity for the students to try out their managerial skills. Along with immense opportunities to learn, it provided memorable moments of fun too!
Cultural Fest
Omkara Cultural Fest was conducted on 14 December, 2015 at the Sree Krishna Hall, IV Floor, ASB, Kochi. The events such as Solo dance, Group dance, Mime, and Mono Act were conducted. The students competed with each other in various competitions and proved again that the hectic schedules cannot hamper their spirits! Off-stage events such as Face Painting, Pencil Sketching, Clay Modeling, Mehandi and Photography were also conducted.
The Integrated Amrita Meditation (IAM) Technique, envisioned by Amma, was initiated to all the students. The classes were delivered by Br. Shraddamrita Chaitanya, inculcating in the students the essence and relevance of yoga and meditation. The sessions received excellent response from students.

As a part of the 4th edition of student driven initiative, ASTHRA 2015, Amrita School of Business, Kochi campus conducted an International Symposium on the theme Towards Sustainable and Smart Cities: Envisioning Kochi, at Kochi campus on March 7, 2015.
The flagship event addressed the sustainability concerns regarding a safe and clean environment and equitable social development. It also aimed to gather and share ideas, knowledge, experience and best practices among researchers, public authorities and experts that will merge into a vision of a smart city for sustainable and intelligent development. Students of Amrita School of Business (ASB) Kochi, visited Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Ernakulam as part of their annual industrial visit. Students had an interactive session on SEBI’s legislative, judicial and executive roles. Insights were given into SEBI’s mandate on investor protection, development and regulation with due emphasis on the investment literacy of people in Kerala and the role of SEBI in providing awareness to people.

Second year student Mathew K. John has presented a paper titled “A new evaluation model for behavioral training program” at the First International Conference on Intellectual Capital & Education held in Vistula University, Warsaw, Poland from December 4-6, 2014.
This is a smaller version of his master’s thesis work that he is doing under the guidance of Mrs. Vandana Gopi, Faculty Associate, Amrita School of Business, Kochi.
Praanah is a social initiative started by students of Amrita School of Business, Kochi, with the blessings of ‘Amma’, Mata Amritanandamayi. The third step to this social initiative was conducted at Changampuzha Park on November 22, 2014. The first phase of the event was to provide medical aid to tribal families of Wayanad which was followed by providing necessary items to the needy families. The students organized awareness campaign on Substance Abuse in various schools in and around Kochi. The prizes for the competition were awarded to the students by Honorable Mayor Tony Chammany.
The students of Amrita School of Business, Kochi made a visit to a Relief Center in Palluruthy as a part of SAPG course along with the Chairperson Ms. Sunanda Muraleedaran and SAPG faculty Dr. N.R. Menon on October 24, 2014.
The interactive session started with the blessings of Amma, followed by an introductory talk with Dr. Rangamani, retired civil surgeon. The students could freely interact with the inmates in the half a day visit. They were deeply moved by the visit and interaction with the inmates. This social outreach has made a huge impact on the perception and attitude of the students at ASB, Kochi.
Students left the place with prayers and hope that the inmates will be cured and reach their homes as they dream.

Amrita School of Business at Kochi Campus conducted Faculty Development Program on August 9, 2014.
ASTHRA 2014, the flagship event of Amrita School of Business Kochi, was inaugurated on 24th January. The signature event was the Social Innovation Conclave. Distinguished speakers like Mr. Biju Varghese, Dr. Prem Nair, Shri Rajeev Mukundan, Dr Rajeev Khosla, Shri. Korath V. Mathew, Smt. Tanie Thomas, Shri K. Paul Thomas, Shri. Diego Guidi and Smt. Rajani Menon shared their views on social innovation.
Prof. Sunanada Muralidharan, Chairperson, Amrita School of Business, delivered the welcome address.
Sampoojya Swami Poornamritananda Puri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanadamayi Math, delivered the benedictory address.
ASTHRA 2014 was officially inaugurated by the dignitaries by lighting the lamp followed by the release of the souvenir ‘Sparsh’.
This was followed by an array of business events and games. Around, 25 colleges from India participated in these events.
As a part of the SAPG course, the second year MBA students were taken for a one day trip on 26th of February, 2014 to Thattekad Bird Sanctuary and Pooyamkutty Dam. The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary (Thattekad Sanctuary) is located in the Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam District. Salim Ali, one of the best known ornithologists described this sanctuary as the richest bird habitat on peninsular India.
Pooyamkutty is a small city in Ernakulam district, Kothamangalam Taluk, blessed with natural beauty, situated along Pooyamkutty river, a tributary of the Periyar. The dam site on the Pooyamkutty River is submerged in one of the densest forests in the country. The area looks picturesque with its lush green tress and thick vegetation. The undergrowth is thick with vines, shrubs, creepers of every variety.
The visit to these beautiful places gave the students an insight into the importance of preserving natural heritage and the fact that there are scores of communities who still manage to be happy, with the barest of resources at their disposal.
