Amrita Collaborates with WHO to develop best practice on tackling the Risk of Transmission of Covid 19. As a part of this project, An online training program was conducted on November 17, 2020, Tuesday, from 2 pm to 4:30 pm,. This is a multicentric study being carried out in different parts of Kerala, which will, later on, be extended to all over India. The lead institute in this project is Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences with Dr. Aswathy S. (PI of the Project and Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi) and the partners are Dr. Mini S. S. (Government Medical College, Thrissur) and Dr. Anuja U. (Government Medical College, Kollam). The overall aim of this study is to gain an understanding of the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 to household contacts of laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Dr. Tasnim Azim (Regional Advisor for Research Policy and Cooperation, Department of Communicable Diseases, WHO South-East Asia) delivered the special message during the training program. Her words of encouragement during this crisis of the COVID-19 Pandemic was a source of motivation for all of us.
The training session was coordinated by Dr. Aswathy S. (PI of the Project and Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi) and Dr. Mohamed Ahamed (National Professional Officer, Research, WHO, India). The program commenced at 2 pm with the welcome address by the Medical Director of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Prem Nair, which was followed by the felicitations given by Dr. M. A. Andrew (Principal, Government Medical College, Thrissur) and Dr. N. Roy (Principal, Government Medical College, Kollam).
Dr. Anisur Rehman (Emergency and Research officer, WHO-India) shared the role of WHO in this study, monitoring and quality control and Dr. Mohammad Ahmad (National Professional Officer, Research, WHO India) gave an overview of the pre-requisites for study initiation and good clinical practice. After a question-and-answer session, the training program came to an end by the vote of thanks by Dr. Beena K. V. (Additional Medical Superintendent, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi). The session came to an end by 4:30 pm.
