The MSW Department frequently displays wall posters on current social issues, problems and needs to inform and educate students and the public.
The MSW Student Associations have conducted seminars and workshops on Drugs and Alcohol Abuse, Suicide Prevention and Crisis Management. MSW students are active in institution wide cultural and spiritual activities.
Students have provided counseling service for local people with psycho/social/emotional problems. Students have developed several grant proposals.

Priti Patkar, the pioneers of pathbreaking social interventions in India. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF), Madurai, working for the rehabilitation of the mentally ill and challenged. 37 | Supporting the Amritapuri Cyber Security Department on ‘water irrigation research’ The team headed by Prof. Shiju Sathyadevan from Amritapuri Cyber Security Department wanted the farmers do water irrigation research. They were making three trips during August. & September. 2015 and we supported them to identify the suitable farmers. 41 | Training on Organic Farming As part of Amrita SeRVe project, a seven-day training programme on “Organic Farming towards Self-Reliant Sustainable Agriculture” was conducted from 05th to 11th August 2015 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. There were six rounds of pre-training meetings to select the interested farmers and finally around 26 farmers from the nearby villages were given opportunity to take-part in the training programme. Master of Social Work students from Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is now at Pandalam, Pathanamthitta district in Kerala(17-24, February 2019).
The Department is successfully conducted a survey Project on the “Monitoring the implementation of Right to Education Act “in Kollam district as a part of State wide project. Mr.Kochukrishna Kurup, Asst. Professor was the Coordinator and Chief investigator and Dr. Rajeev MM & Mr. Nisanth M. were the Associate investigators of the Project. Four Students from 4th Semester MSW batch also engaged in the Survey project. This short term project was completed by end of January 2016.
The Students placed at District Child Protection Unit ,Pathanamthitta, organized ‘DISHA- 2016- a programme for providing training in Arts and cultural forms for the children in need of care and protection with support of DCPU pathanamthitta and Natya Sangeetha Academy , Kozhencherry.Mr. PavinNath (IV semester MSW) coordinated the programme.

The Field work trainees conducted a community program at Govt Old age Home, Kollam on World Greenery Day(4-5-2017).The program was conducted with the motive of promoting kitchen gardening and organic farming at old age home. The program was inaugurated by the Asst. Agricultural officer. The agricultural officer rendered an awareness class on organic farming techniques and the program was inaugurated with planting of saplings. The trainees also conducted a medical camp at the old age home in collaboration with the viyomithram project.
The field work trainees (Members: Kishore Mohan & Aneesh Abraham) rendered an awareness class in commemoration of the World Health Day on April 7th on the theme Depression.The class was arranged on the PHC premises of Pathiyoor Panchayat and around 25 Kudumbashree workers attended the program.
Malnutrition in the age group 0 to 6 years has declined only by one percentage point in the last eight years.To sensitize this issue among parents ,students conducted community based program at ICDS Allappadpanchayat.This program was arranged by two MSW students(Keerthana&Archa) under the guidance of faculty member Mr.NisanthMuralidharan
The field work trainees at QSSS kollam has done their community program at ICDS kureepuzha.The program was conducted on 27-04-2017.The event was inaugurated by District Childline Nodal Officer Mr Abraham. The target community was teenage girls and mothers. The purpose of the program was to provide information regarding effective parenting in teenage and also the service provided to children like that of child line India. Interactive session has been held to know about the impact made by program on the target community
The fieldwork trainees (Members: Renu Ravindran, Rajeev V.R. & Meera Nair.M) as part of concurrent fieldwork conducted community program on the topic Child Safety.The program was held on 27-04-2017 at Anganawadi, Karunagapally. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Dominic, the Councellor of KRDA Suraksha Project. The program started with community mobilization and the Councellor took a session on the topic “Good Touch & Bad Touch”.The program was continued with the distribution of newspaper cutting about the sexual abuse among children in order to awake the parents.
Program was organised and conducted by the social work trainees (Members: Albine George Babu,Mamatha Chandran J.R,Manu Prasad G) as part of their academic curriculum. An awareness program was conducted based on the theme “Anti-Drug policies, for the purpose of creating awareness among the children about the ill effects of drug consumption, its physical and mental health issues,drug trafficking and its legal issues, the ways to stop drug addiction, steps to follow when one disease information about drug trafficking etc. The program was conducted at The Tuberculosis Centre, Kollam on 26-04-2017.The program was inaugurated by the Mr Sreekumar excise inspector, Alappuzha.
The social work trainees (Members: Aiswarya Radhakrishnan, Remya Krishnan,Garghi Shivarajan, Vishnu R) as part of their academic curriculum conducted an awareness class on the topic Cancer, Plastic and Adolescent Health. The awareness class was done on the basis of two case studies done on cancer and waste management. The target group for the same are kudumbasree women and adolescent children in separate sessions. The venue of the programme was thodiyoor panchayath.
The social work trainees (Members:Nabeela.s,VarshaSunil,Swati Dinesh) conducted their community programme on 26-4-2017.The programme topic is Women security.The chief guest of the programme was Sudha Lakshmi who is the programme officer of thenmala ecotourism division.Theprogramme started by around 11 am by the lighting of lamp by the chief guest.The social work trainees also conducted classes about Hygiene practices.
With the support of the faculty and Chancellor Amma, 43 Master’s of Social Work students with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham decided to spend a month in 14 different villages across the country. The goal of the fieldwork was to practically learn what life is like in rural India, a place where 80% of India’s 270 million people in poverty live.
The trainees organized a community programme (Members:Harith J &Vishumol) among fisherman in alappad panchayath by rendering a community intervention in the form of an awareness class on the issues faced by fishermen,particularly the precautions that the fishermen community should ensure to counter the deficiency of fish resources.The second session of the programme was a focussed group discussion with the the fishermen addressing the recent delay they face in the delivery of services provided by the various fisheries department.The trainees also organized their community programme among kudumbashree members as part of their waste management programme.The venue of the programme was Rotary club of Alappad panchayath.
The Socio- Cultural Survey/ Heritage Mapping Exercise conducted at Aranmula initiated by Dept of Social Work has concluded on 29th May 15 at Aranmula. It was an outstanding experience for both the students and the faculty members and it would also enhance our field work and research capabilities.
Department of social work Amritha Vishwa Vidhyapeethamand Quilon Social Service Society, Kollam jointly organized the world cancer day campaign from February 4 – 6, 2015 at St Aloysius Higher Secondary School , Kollam .The campaign was inaugurated by FR.BINU THOMAS Associate Director of Quilon Social Service Society .S2 MSW students (Mr Amal Bhaskar .Ms Huda Basha ,MsDeepthy.T) from Amritha Vishwa Vidhyapeetham they organize an awareness campaign against the stigmatization of cancer in our current society in the form of AN OPEN CANVAS concept. The students collect messages and signatures from the public, all the teachers and the student representatives are being the part of this campaign and the trainees take class for the school students about world cancer day around 150 students are presented in the class. Then the trainees organize group activity among the training students of Quilon social service society, In the form of chart making and explanation of chart based on cancer day awareness campaign.

World Social Work Day 2015 (WSWD) is on March 17. The theme ‘Promoting the Dignity and Worth of Peoples’ relates to the second pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. The theme focuses the joint work of The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), The International Association of Schools of Social Work and The International Council on Social Welfare. These three organizations are committed to working together to influence international, regional and local policies, government actions and to highlight the value and contributions that social workers make everyday throughout the world. As a part of this the MSW students conducted poster presentations in the Amritapuri campus to highlight the social problems faced by vulnerable societies in India. 22 Students were present.
MSW students of Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham conduct an awareness class for school students in collaboration with Quilon social service society, regarding waste management and the importance of waste segregation. The trainees arrange them in three groups through activity and give certain materials including different colors of papers which represent different types of wastes then they segregate the waste and reproduce it in a chart in the form of their own creativity and they are supposed to create a story regarding their presentation. Then the trainees conduct the class with a video presentation which shows the importance of reducing the amount of waste production. Students of S2 MSW Amal Bhaskar, Huda Basha, Deepthy. T. Organizes the class. There are around 30 student’s presents in the programme. The students take initiative to come forward and present the chart. It will help the trainees to observe the co-ordination and co-operation of group members within the group and it will also helpful to create a leadership quality among them and it will also help to give a chance to build up their own creativity and through this activity they learn about the importance of waste segregation and how to reduce the amount of waste production.
In association with world cancer day, on February 2015, In Department we had a seminar presentation by Rajamanikandan on the topic “cancer”. the presentation covered topics such as what is cancer, types of cancer , prevention, treatment and 7 warning signs; This presentation covered all the detailed information about cancer which was very informative for us . After the session we had a discussion based on the presentation followed by the discussion we get together for an activity based on the presentation. Each one of us were divided into four groups and we were given topics for discussion, which each team have to point out & write it down in a chat and after that each team presented their topic. The meeting was concluded by an oath taking ceremony. 42 MSW students participated.
Live in labs program at Wayanad tribal village in collaboration with Harvard university students , ACIP and Amrita CREATE has been organised by Mr.Vivek S and Ms.Veena Suresh with the support of four social work students Tinky , Arathy , Nimmi and Athira . The outcome of the project was an Alcohol awareness program through life skill education among tribal students at Vallaramkunnu Village. Initially the training was given to 32 tribal students and 10 students were selected for the Ambassador program at SreeShankara Vidya Niketan UP school, Cherukara ,Wayanad.

As a part of our seven day’s rural camp, which was based on the 5 S methodology, we organized the camp in the Ulloochira area of Pullad Village. Mr. Ajayakumar, block panchayat member, was the local support personnel for the programme. He introduced us to the village and gave a brief idea regarding impact of flood in this particular area.
Master of Social Works students from Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has successfully completed their 20 days of internship at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Center, Kochi. As part of the curriculum, students are required to undergo periodic training in each semester aimed to develop their social work attitude, #skill, and knowledge in the various fields of application. Student trainees were assigned with 20 days of internship in a community and medical setting functioning under the AIMS hospital with direct supervision of two faculty members and the professional social workers from the community health centre.The community medical setting namely Amrita Community Health Training Centre, Njarackal in Kochi, provides free medical services to people living in the Vyipin Island. On the day of arrival, Dr. ChitraTomy, Asst.Professor, and Department of community medicine, AIMS and the Administrative Medical officer of the CHC organized an orientation session.

Everyone creates waste, although some people are very environmentally conscious and create very little. To make a awareness with the school children department initiative for a club specialized for solving the issue waste. This club of students and faculties reach every school to sensitize this issue with simple examples and activities. Old age home Kollam as a part of our community organization program. The chief guest of our event was Smt. BeenaBabu ( Panchayath president), in the presence of ward member Smt. Saraswathiamma, Dr. Anil Kumar & students of Amrita college ( Amal Bhasker, Shyam Prakash &aswathy A ) The camp started with a welcome come address by Mr. Amal Bhasker ( Msw Student ). Then we invited our beloved Panchayath president Smt. Beenababu to deliver the presidential address of the event. After that we invited Dr. Anil Kumar to inaugurate our event with a felicitation speech and the official inauguration concluded with the vote of thanks from Aswathy.A (Msw student). After the inauguration by 10:30 Am we started our camp. We invited each of the inmates for the health check up and the camp end up by 1:30 Pm.

The Valedictory function, took place at KCT auditorium on 7th October 2016. The program was initiated by Mr. Abdul Ghana; a Social Activist working on tree plantations was centered on preserving Planet Earth. The key note speaker Mr.Sujith, HR Business Head at Infosys Chennai, delivered a motivational talk exhorting the youth to take to the path of services. Mr.Anil Srinivasan, a noted Classical pianist, spoke about how sharing talents can bring about Joy to People through his mesmerizing music. Panel Discussion: Leading the discussion Mr.Shankar Vanavarayar spoke of how it is possible for youth to come up with viable service projects and said the panelists are real role models for them. The panel comprised of Mr.Padmanaban Gopalan of No Food Waste, Mr.Saravanan Chandrasekhar of Wild Wing Trust, Kishore of MC3 Trust and Ms.Vaishnavi of Food Bank.
