Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram (MDS MSc DNB, Ph.D.), Professor, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, was awarded the Diploma in Dental Public Health, by the American Board of Dental Public Health on June 27, 2020. This diplomate was awarded after taking the four parts of the Board exam. He is now the Board-certified specialist in Dental Public Health. At present, he is the first to achieve this Diploma from India.
Previous to this challenging American board exam, he completed a Residency in Dental Public Health from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Centre, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Under the dual program, he also completed training in health informatics from the National Library of Medicine, NIH Bethesda. For this, he was awarded the prestigious National Institute of Health Fellowship (NIH) in 2017-2019 for these programs which led to the Board Exam.
He also has been invited to author a chapter on “Dental Care in Complementary and Alternative Medicine” in the US Government’s Surgeon General’s report on Oral Health of America to be released this year.
Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram has served as Professor in the School of Dentistry since 2004. In 2012, he was awarded Erasmus Mundus Fellowship, European Parliament for Advanced Masters in Bioethics Fellowship.
