The MSW Department frequently displays wall posters on current social issues, problems and needs to inform and educate students and the public.

The MSW Student Associations have conducted seminars and workshops on Drugs and Alcohol Abuse, Suicide Prevention and Crisis Management. MSW students are active in institution wide cultural and spiritual activities.

Students have provided counseling service for local people with psycho/social/emotional problems. Students have developed several grant proposals.

7 Workshop on Child Protection and Anti-human Trafficking
Amrita social work students, Amritapuri, campus, got an opportunity to interact with eminent social workers Shri. Praveen Patkar and Smt. Priti Patkar, the pioneers of pathbreaking social interventions in India. They are the co-founders of ‘Prerana’, an NGO globally recognized for its initiatives in child protection and anti-human trafficking.

8 Workshop on Musical Reminiscence Therapy

10 ANOKA 2016
As part of the ANOKA 2016, the Dept. of Social Work organised a work shop on fund raising, competions on selfi with nature, painting on ‘Suustainable Development Goals’, and mime on 18, 19, &20 February 2016.
11 ANVITA 2016 – Rural / Tribal Camp
The Dept. of Social Work organised a rural camp in Nemmara, Palakkad from 19-01-16 to 25-01-16 and the first year MSW students participated in the camp. Dr. Priya.KR and Dr.P.Rangasami were the camp coordinators.
12 Training on Participatory Rural Appraisal
A two day training on “Participatory Rural Appraisal” [PRA] was organised in the department on 11th & 13th January 2016. Dr. M. Nagalingam Assistant Prof. of the Dept was the resource person.
13 Cleaning Drive at Muruganpathy Tribal Village
ASeRVe and Department of Social Work are conducted cleaning drive at Muruganpathy tribal village along with village youth on 05.12.2015. School campus was cleaned.
14 Winter Internship
All First year students had their winter internship for the first time in various places. 4 students were placed in M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation (MSCTRF), Madurai, working for the rehabilitation of the mentally ill and challenged. The students spend a month in this organization to get hands-on training and field exposure.
15 Power of Adolenscence and Personal Excellency
Ph.D scholar Ms. Saleena organized a program for Student Police cadets in Government higher secondary school, Keezhuparambu, Malappuram District. Topic  Power of Adolenscence and Personal Excellency on 27.11.2015.
16 International Women’s Peace Group
Ph.D scholar participated in IWPG – International Womens Peace Group, Network India which was held on19th Nov2015 at the Women’s Christian College, Nagercoil  in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, the southernmost area of India hosted by the IWPG Women Leaders’ Peace Committee Kanyakumari District with PURA as the leading organizer. IWPG is an international non-profit organization for women with ten million members across 1000 affiliates and branch offices in 170 countries widely recognized for its convening and campaigning capabilities.
17 Chennai Flood Relief Survey
Two students volunteered in the Chennai Flood need based Survey in association with Seva Bharathi Organization from 22nd to26th Dec2015.
18 Chennai Flood Relief Work
The students volunteered in the Chennai Flood Relief work (from11th to16th Dec2015) in association with Mata Amritanandamayi Math and AIMS hospital.
19 Mission Indhradanush (Government of India) ,Vadakancherry, Plaakkad , Kerala
The students participated in the event “Mission Indhradanush” on 20/11/15 organized by Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India. It is part of National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) The students were part of health camp, did a survey on toilets for  women and performed a mime on child abuse.
20 Visit To Integrated Rural Technology Centre, Mundoor, Palakkad ,Kerala
The students were taken on a visit to Integrated Rural Technology Centre, Mundoor, Palakkad, Kerala on 3/11/15. They learned about various technology utilizations for the rural poor ,like income generation activities, bio-gas etc. The officials interacted with the students on various research topics, placements and internships.
21 Prevention of Child Abuse Day
District Child Protection Unit in association with world vision organized an awareness programme on child rights on 19/11/15 at 5.30 p.m. in the VOC Park Grounds . The students presented a Mime on child l abuse on the occasion.
22 Children’s Day with DCPU at Railway Station
District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) in association with world vision organized an awareness programme on child rights on 14/11/15 at 4.30 p.m. in the Coimbatore Railway Station. The students presented a Street Play on the occasion.
23 Seminar on Child Rights & Protection
On 13/11/15 Mr. Nirmal Jerome, Social Worker Specialist Children’s Service, Kent County Council, United Kingdom addressed the child rights and protection methods followed in UK. In the afternoon Mr.Prafulladas (Alumni) Child Protection Officer, DCPU, Coimbatore addressed the students on child rights and protection in India.
24 Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship
Mr. Nachiappan our alumini addressed our students on 6/11/15 on the topic of  Entrepreneurship in social work. He is the founder of Autism Care, Coimbatore. He enlightened the students on the procedure to start an NGO and the opportunities that social work has in India.
25 Awareness programme at CORD
The students conducted awareness programme 0n 20/10/15 at CORD, Siruvani, Coimbatore (an NGO working for rural development and empowerment )in association with Central social Welfare Board (CSWB). The students performed a mime on Alcoholism. They also did a hand washing demonstration to the children there.
26 Signature campaign
As part of Bharathrathna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birthday a signature campaign was conducted in our campus on 19/10/15. Over 200 students participated.
27 Education & Health Survey
The department in association with Amrita CREATE on 16th & 17th Oct 2015 conducted an Education and Health survey (PhaseII)  at Muruganpathy village, Ettimadai, Coimbatore.
28 World Mental Health Day
Department of Social Work and Students Affairs conducted an awareness programme on mental health in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 10/10/15. A flash mob and mime was enacted by the students of B.Tech. and MSW. Awareness handouts were given to the participants.
29 Joy of Giving Programme
ASeRVe and social work participated in the Joy of Giving programme conducted by Rotary Club on 10th & 11th October 2015. This was a platform for NGO’s to came together and show case their work. Around 30 NGO’s participated in the programme.
30 Association Inauguration
The Department association was inaugurated on 10/10/15 by Prof. S. Rengasamy, Retired Professor from Madurai Institute of Social Sciences, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
31 Guest Faculty Visit
Dr. Martin, Anthropologist from Columbia University, USA visited the department on 4/10/15 and shared his views and ideas with faculty and studens
32 Puppet making workshop for ASeRVe volunteers
A puppet making workshop was conducted on 3/10/15 for the ASeRVe volunteers. They learned to make puppets from socks. The ASeRVe volunteers will be using it to educate villagers and children through puppet shows.
33 Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations
The students made 90 posters on 2/10/15 and tied them up in the Amrita campus to create awareness on the various messages of Mahathma Gandhi
34 World Elders Day
As part of World Elders day PhD Scholar Ms. Saleena conducted an awareness programme “Enjoying old age” on 1/10/15 for the people of Pothuvettical Panchayath, Malapuram District, Kerala.
35 Field Visit to Rehabilitation Home for the Mentally Ill
The students were taken on a field visit to HCA (Home for Children & Adults) Annur, Coimbatore on 19/9/15. There were 54 patients in this centre. The students and faculty interacted with them and spend the day.
36 Mission Zero Exclusion
As part of Amrita SeRVe project, Mission Zero Exclusion initiative was started during November 2014. It was for bringing the disabled in the mainstream assisting the disabled gain self reliance and dignity. Mr. Rajendran lost a limb in an accident.The initiative and intervention of Amrita SeRVe, Mission Zero Exclusion, he was taken to government hospital, Coimbatore facilitated to obtain Disability identity card, wheel chair and artificial limb. To provide a means of livelihood to him a Petty shop was inaugurated on 17th September 2015 in Ettimadai village.
37 Supporting the Amritapuri Cyber Security Department on ‘water irrigation research’
The team headed by Prof. Shiju Sathyadevan from Amritapuri Cyber Security Department wanted the farmers do water irrigation research. They were making three trips during August. & September. 2015 and we supported them to identify  the suitable farmers. Farmer Mr.Palanisamy with required infrastructure in Ettimadai was linked  with the team.The research was successful and the device was launched during Amma’s birthday. On this occasion the farmer was felicitated in the function and on behalf of the farmer his relative Mr.Karthick attended the function.
38 Education Survey
An education survey (Phase I) was conducted on 26/8/15 along with Amrita CREATE at Murugan pathy village , Ettimadai, Coimbatore.
39 Awarenees programme on Free legal aid
Awareness programme on free legal aid services was held at Periyar Nagar, Saravanampatti, Coimbatore on 10.08.15. It was jointly organized by District Legal Services Authority, District Child Protection Unit, World Vision India – Coimbatore, Dept. of Social Work – Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore. Mr.Jaganathan, Secretary, District Legal Services authority spoke about free legal aid. Mrs.Rexlin (Protection officer – Non-Institutional care), District Child Protection Unit spoke about child safety and protection. Mr.Vetriselvan John, Co-ordinator, World Vision India Coimbatore co-ordinated the event. The First and Second Year MSW students performed street play on child and women safety.
40 Amrita Centre for International Programmes (ACIP)-Live in Labs programme at Idukki, Kerala
Five II MSW students and 5 students of Ryerson School of Disability studies, Canada participated in the L – I – L (Live In Labs) programme at Komalikudi, Bison Valley, Idukki Dist. Kerala from 1st to 13th August 2015. The students interacted with the village community and exchanged thoughts and ideas. Our students also benefited from the interaction with  international students.
41 Training on Organic Farming​
As part of Amrita SeRVe project, a seven-day training programme on “Organic Farming towards Self-Reliant Sustainable Agriculture” was conducted from 05th to 11th August 2015 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. There were six rounds of pre-training meetings to select the interested farmers and finally around 26 farmers from the nearby villages were given opportunity to take-part in the training programme. Eminent professors and successful farmers handled the sessions for the farmers. Dr. G. Balakrishnamurthy, Ph.D, PDF(USA) Prof. of Horticulture(Retd.), TNAU and Coordinated the entire training programme.
42 Tuition class inauguration
Free Tuition class was inaugurated on 24th July 2015 by Br.Anil Varma  at Muruganpathy tribal village. Dr. Sriram and Br. Shamugam also joined for the inaugural function. Ms. Nithya was selected as tuition teacher. About 20 students from the village are to be benefited.
43 Tailoring Class inauguration
As part of Amrita SeRVe project, Tailoring class was inaugurated in Muruganpathy village on 25th July 2015. Smt. V. Sundari, Academic Director, Amrita Vidyalayams handed over the project to the tribal women. 13 women will be  benefited from this initiative.
44 Sanitary Complex for Women – Inauguration at Ettimadai
Women’s sanitary complex was inaugurated at Ettimadai on 20.07.15. It was inaugurated by Swami Tapsyamrita Chaitanya. Mr.A.Shanmugam, President, Ettimadai Town panchayath, Mr. A.Chinnasamy, (Oor Goundar, Ettimadai) Ashram brachmachries and villagers were also present during the inauguration
45 Seminar on Evidence based practice in Care Settings
The seminar was conducted on 27/10/15 at the Department conference hall. The resource persons were Dr. Thomas B Idiculla, Director of Mental Health services, Harvard Medical School, Harvard University, USA and Dr. Suja MK, Chairperson & Associate Prof. , Dept. of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore.
46 Research Methodology Workshop
A three day Research Methodology Workshop was conducted from 24th to 26th August 2015. Dr. Sofia from Amrita ASeRVe was the resource person. The students and faculty members from different schools of social work participated in the workshop.
47 The Department of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, Coimbatore had organized a 2 day Training Programme on “Anti Human Traffickling Interventions” with a support of India office International Justice Mission – Washington, D. C. on 16th & 17th April, 2015 . The training was coordinated by Dr. M. Nagalingam and Dr. Pravin Patkar.
48 The Department of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, Coimbatore had organized a one day Training Programme on “Online Safety for Children” with a sponsorship from ADM capital fund. The training was coordinated by Dr. M. Nagalingam and Dr. Pravin Patkar.

52 The Department of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam, Coimbatore had organized a 3 day Training Programme on “Planning, Executing, & Managing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Projects” on 29th to 31st January 2014 in association with Shanti Ashram, a voluntary and Gandhian organization from Coimbatore.   • Rural Camp was organized by the department for the Second semester MSW students at Komalikudi of Baisonvally, idukki district from 11thMarch to 16th March 2016. The camp was coordinated by Ms. Veena Suresh, Mr.Vivek S and Mr. Nisanth M with support of other faculty members of the department and in association with ‘Amrita Serve’ Project Amritapuri and Komalikudi.

  • ‘Monitoring the Implementation of Right to Education Act’ in Kollam District

    The Department is successfully conducted a survey Project on the “Monitoring the implementation of Right to Education Act “in Kollam district as a part of State wide project. Mr.Kochukrishna Kurup, Asst. Professor was the Coordinator and Chief investigator and Dr. Rajeev MM & Mr. Nisanth M. were the Associate investigators of the Project. Four Students from 4th Semester MSW batch also engaged in the Survey project. This short term project was completed by end of January 2016.

  • DISHA- 2016-Training in Arts and Cultural Forms for the Children

    The Students placed at District Child Protection Unit ,Pathanamthitta, organized ‘DISHA- 2016- a programme for providing training in Arts and cultural forms for the children in need of care and protection with support of DCPU pathanamthitta and Natya Sangeetha Academy , Kozhencherry.Mr. PavinNath (IV semester MSW) coordinated the programme.

  • Harithanganam

    The Field work trainees conducted a community program at Govt Old age Home, Kollam on World Greenery Day(4-5-2017).The program was conducted with the motive of promoting kitchen gardening and organic farming at old age home. The program was inaugurated by the Asst. Agricultural officer. The agricultural officer rendered an awareness class on organic farming techniques and the program was inaugurated with planting of saplings. The trainees also conducted a medical camp at the old age home in collaboration with the viyomithram project.

    The fieldwork trainees (Members: Renu Ravindran, Rajeev V.R. & Meera Nair.M) as part of concurrent fieldwork conducted community program on the topic Child Safety.The program was held on 27-04-2017 at Anganawadi, Karunagapally. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Dominic, the Councellor of KRDA Suraksha Project. The program started with community mobilization and the Councellor took a session on the topic “Good Touch & Bad Touch”.The program was continued with the distribution of newspaper cutting about the sexual abuse among children in order to awake the parents.

  • Avabhotham Awareness Class on the Issues Faced by Fishermen

    The trainees organized a community programme (Members:Harith J &Vishumol) among fisherman in alappad panchayath by rendering a community intervention in the form of an awareness class on the issues faced by fishermen,particularly the precautions that the fishermen community should ensure to counter the deficiency of fish resources.The second session of the programme was a focussed group discussion with the the fishermen addressing the recent delay they face in the delivery of services provided by the various fisheries department.The trainees also organized their community programme among kudumbashree members as part of their waste management programme.The venue of the programme was Rotary club of Alappad panchayath.

  • Observance of World Social Work Day

    World Social Work Day 2015 (WSWD) is on March 17. The theme ‘Promoting the Dignity and Worth of Peoples’ relates to the second pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development. The theme focuses the joint work of The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), The International Association of Schools of Social Work and The International Council on Social Welfare. These three organizations are committed to working together to influence international, regional and local policies, government actions and to highlight the value and contributions that social workers make everyday throughout the world. As a part of this the MSW students conducted poster presentations in the Amritapuri campus to highlight the social problems faced by vulnerable societies in India. 22 Students were present.

  • Awareness on Waste Management

    MSW students of Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham conduct an awareness class for school students in collaboration with Quilon social service society, regarding waste management and the importance of waste segregation. The trainees arrange them in three groups through activity and give certain materials including different colors of papers which represent different types of wastes then they segregate the waste and reproduce it in a chart in the form of their own creativity and they are supposed to create a story regarding their presentation. Then the trainees conduct the class with a video presentation which shows the importance of reducing the amount of waste production. Students of S2 MSW Amal Bhaskar, Huda Basha, Deepthy. T. Organizes the class. There are around 30 student’s presents in the programme. The students take initiative to come forward and present the chart. It will help the trainees to observe the co-ordination and co-operation of group members within the group and it will also helpful to create a leadership quality among them and it will also help to give a chance to build up their own creativity and through this activity they learn about the importance of waste segregation and how to reduce the amount of waste production.

  • Observance of World Cancer Day

    In association with world cancer day, on February 2015, In Department we had a seminar presentation by Rajamanikandan on the topic “cancer”. the presentation covered topics such as what is cancer, types of cancer , prevention, treatment and 7 warning signs; This presentation covered all the detailed information about cancer which was very informative for us . After the session we had a discussion based on the presentation followed by the discussion we get together for an activity based on the presentation. Each one of us were divided into four groups and we were given topics for discussion, which each team have to point out & write it down in a chat and after that each team presented their topic. The meeting was concluded by an oath taking ceremony. 42 MSW students participated.

  • Alcohol Awareness Program through Life Skill Education

    Live in labs program at Wayanad tribal village in collaboration with Harvard university students , ACIP and Amrita CREATE has been organised by Mr.Vivek S and Ms.Veena Suresh with the support of four social work students Tinky , Arathy , Nimmi and Athira . The outcome of the project was an Alcohol awareness program through life skill education among tribal students at Vallaramkunnu Village. Initially the training was given to 32 tribal students and 10 students were selected for the Ambassador program at SreeShankara Vidya Niketan UP school, Cherukara ,Wayanad.

  • In Valaramkunnu village, Wayanad, Kerala, AMMACHI Labs team, Master of Social Work, Amritapuri students and faculty organised an awareness class, powerpoint presentation and a video session about #polio, its symptoms, and preventive measures . Meanwhile, medical officers of health department administered polio vaccines to children in the village. Team also arranged a documentary show on the same day as it was an important day for Paniyas which was related with the story of Karinthandan(1700 – 1750 AD) who was the local chieftain of Paniyas in Wayanad district. The sessions were really appreciated by the community. In the afternoon session, a training class was given to children by teaching various co curricular activities in view of Muthakara school annual day function. MSW students conducted tution classes for tenth standard students from the village.

As part of the curriculum, students are required to undergo periodic training in each semester aimed to develop their social work attitude, #skill, and knowledge in the various fields of application. Student trainees were assigned with 20 days of internship in a community and medical setting functioning under the AIMS hospital with direct supervision of two faculty members and the professional social workers from the community health centre.The community medical setting namely Amrita Community Health Training Centre, Njarackal in Kochi, provides free medical services to people living in the Vyipin Island. Coimbatore
  • Two Social work trainees Mr.Prithviraj.K, Mr.Sanjeev C. M. undergone field work at Coimbatore Cancer Foundation-Raksha the hospice center which is run by under CCF, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore from January 2016 to April 2016. Dr.M.K.Suja was the field work supervisor and Dr.Rajith Ramachandran and Mrs.Reena were the agency supervisors. There was special orientation and training on Palliative care and received certificate on 20th July 2016. The trainees were able to learn basics of palliative care which will be helpful in the future carrier of social work.
  • Coimbatore Area Programme Level (ADP) Child Protection Committee meeting held on 22nd July 2016 (Friday) at Corporation Kalayana Mandapam, Edaiyarpalayam Road, Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore from 10.30 AM onwards. Mr.S.Kanagaraj, Field Co-ordinator, Dept. of Social work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham participated in the meeting. Many officials from GOs/NGOs/Universities/Colleges and CBO leaders participated in the meeting. Honorable Mr. V. John Mino, Senior Civil Judge, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Coimbatore was the Chief guest. Ms.Saranya, District Child protection officer was the guest of honor for the meeting. There was debriefing session on Child Protection Assessment (CP-ADAPT) also.
  • Two students from II MSW Mr.Varun G and Ms.Mehartaj participated in the Live-in-labs programme arranged by ACIP(Amrita Centre for International Programmes) from 24th July to 2nd August 2016 along with a student from Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada namely 1.Chantal Carneiro, 2. Jacqueline Iwanski 3. Nickza Dalas. Trainees spent in Rathanpur which is located in Bhojpur. During these days trainees interviewed with village head, President of the village, Health workers, Doctors in PHC, teachers, and with few villagers and collected the data about the village regarding Education, health, water and sanitation etc.
  • Social work trainee Jishnu K Madhav, II MSW student under the guidance of Field work faculty Dr.M Nagalingam has successfully finished a well cleaning initiative during the field work in Managalathi chelaar Tribal colony in Walayar which is under the jurisdiction of Walayar forest section office. Trainee started this work after getting permission from field work supervisor Mr.Radhakrishnan. Trainee finished this task with the help of tribals there especially tribal youths. The people of this colony faced problem in getting water as they have to travel some distance for cooking, irrigation purposes. And the water available to them is from bore well which is not that much good. After the completion of this well cleaning, this water has been very useful to the colony people as it is now being used for their agricultural purposes, especially in the land adjacent to the well where organic farming is going on. Trainee along with the tribals finished this work by 2nd August 2016.
  • Ms.Kiran Devi from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, Department of Social Work, Coimbatore and Ms.Rachel Daws from the University at Buffalo School of Public Health, worked to implement the Amrita Awareness Ambassadors (AAA) program under the guidance of Amrita Center for Research in Advanced Technology for Education (CREATE), Amrita University, as part of Amrita Center for International Programs (ACIP)Live-in –Labs (LiLa). In a village named Dunda in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, the program team aimed to raise awareness on substance use and the associated consequences, as the use of alcohol and tobacco are common among men of that village and such a project has never before been implemented in Dunda from July 6th, 2016 – July 24th, 2016. Data collected using surveys and focus group discussions (FGDs) revealed that even girls in the village have used substances, and many report fathers’ use. Knowledge about the health impact of alcohol and tobacco was low. While students’ expectations of the positive outcomes associated with drinking were high, self-reported intentions to drink with peers were low. These findings provide insight into further modification of the program and suggestions for how to expand the AAA program to other villages.
  • Amrita University, in collaboration with SAARC Countries and Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), conducted an expert consultation meeting on “Assessment of the Role of Agro-processing as a Key Component of Rural Mass Employment and Rural Development Models” at Amrita University, Coimbatore on 18th-19th August, 2016. The members visited the villages near Coimbatore adopted by Mata Amritanandamayi Math to witness the sustainable practices put in place by Amrita University arranged by Dr.M.Nagalingam, Asst. Professor, and Mr.T.Sathish Kumar, Field Co-ordinator, Dept. of social work. They explained the activities and facilitated the discussion with villagers for the SAARC members. They visited Ettimadai, Muruganpathy and Vazhukkuparai villages, Madukkarai block, Coimbatore district.
  • MSW students performed Mime on Mental health at Shivesh at Shivesh Autism school, Coimbatore annual day celebrations on 28th August 2016.
  • I MSW students were brought to St.Joseph Old age home, Podanur for an orientation visit on 04th October 2016. Dept. of Social work and Sahaya club contributed soaps, talcum powder etc., It was contribution by all the students, staff members. Management of the home, the sisters’ felt extremely happy for the contribution given by students. It is one of the biggest contributions ever given by the students.
  • The CCF marathon held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 provided the opportunity for students of Department Of Social Work in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. The following MSW students volunteered for the programme Payal Tyagi, Archana Lakshmi K.R., Shikha Rai,Rashmi Rai, Kavya R. Nair , Renuka R., Prithiviraj K., Devashriram S D, Kavirajan S., Santhana Bharathy G.S., Rajeevan T.V. The Coimbatore marathon brings together people from various walks of life from across the country to help spread awareness and support those who are fighting cancer. The event, which transformed Coimbatore into a marathon city, is expected to attract more than 11000 participants including athletes, celebrities, and corporate leaders, entrepreneurs from all over the country and from the city.
  • Joy of giving or Dhaan Utsav, a nationwide festival of giving, organized by Rotary Coimbatore Central partnered with several educational institutions with Kumaraguru College of Technology taking a lead role in organizing Project “Magizhchi” taking an association with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sri Krishna Institutions and KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology to take the message to the youth. The aim was to create awareness about the need for giving among youth and enhance their participants.Event at University Campus by the organizing team: A programme held in the Amrita University campus on 5th October 2016 at Sri Krishna hall, ASB. Chief Guest Adv. Mr.Vidhyasagar inaugurated and stated “joy of giving is organized in institutions/colleges to make aware of the students that contribution of money is not only joy of giving but also working for the cause, sparing time, spreading knowledge is also a joy of giving and he concluded by stressing on the point students can be a change maker and can bring a change in the society. Dr.M.Nagalingam delivered felicitation address. There was cultural and theatre performances by MSW students on theme of Joy of giving. Finally Mr.T.Sathishkumar delivered vote of thanks.

    The Valedictory function, took place at KCT auditorium on 7th October 2016. The program was initiated by Mr. Abdul Ghana; a Social Activist working on tree plantations was centered on preserving Planet Earth. The key note speaker Mr.Sujith, HR Business Head at Infosys Chennai, delivered a motivational talk exhorting the youth to take to the path of services. Mr.Anil Srinivasan, a noted Classical pianist, spoke about how sharing talents can bring about Joy to People through his mesmerizing music. Panel Discussion: Leading the discussion Mr.Shankar Vanavarayar spoke of how it is possible for youth to come up with viable service projects and said the panelists are real role models for them. The panel comprised of Mr.Padmanaban Gopalan of No Food Waste, Mr.Saravanan Chandrasekhar of Wild Wing Trust, Kishore of MC3 Trust and Ms.Vaishnavi of Food Bank.

  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates World Food Day on 16th October 2016 marks a day to take action against hunger with the sole aim of eradicating it in this lifetime. Department of Social Work observed No Food Waste Day displayed posters in all the mess halls and canteens to sensitize among students and general people regarding the issue.
  • The Social Work students celebrated World Mental Health Day at University Campus at Visitor’s Car parking at 04.30 pm on 21st October 2016, Friday. The theme of the programme was ‘: Psychological First Aid’. This programme was initiated and organized by Department of Social Work, for creating Awareness about Mental Health. Flash Mob was conducted in order to attract the crowd and students from various departments were came together to see the programme. As part of the Celebration, ‘Mime’ was conducted on the theme of “Psychological First Aid”. The mime ended with conveying message by displaying it through Placards. The Same programme was conducted at Coimbatore Railway Junction at 04.30 pm on 22nd October 2016, Saturday amidst of many general public. It was inaugurated by Coimbatore Jn. Master and Deputy Commercial Manager. The Railway authorities supported and arranged facilities for conducting the programme. It was good opportunity to spread awareness about mental health among general public.
  • The Gangothri Charitable Cultural & Educational Trust, Nemmara is one of the field work and placement partners. The five MSW students volunteered for the conducting Socio- Economic survey in Tribal colonies of Parambikulam & Vandazhi Gram Panchayat in Palakkad District the duration is 24 – 28 Oct 2016.   • Dept. of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University organised awareness programme on “First aid in road accidents and Skin Donation” in association with Ganga Medical Centre and Hospitals (P) Ltd, Coimbatore on October 20, 2016 at University campus. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp by the delegates. Dr.M.Nagalingam, Asst. Prof., gave welcome address. Dr.Kannan Balaraman, Senior Consultant, Maxillofacial Surgery, explained the concepts with multimedia presentation regarding the detailed care regarding “First aid in Road accidents”. He also showed demo on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation – CPR during emergency. He also explained do’s and don’ts during accidents. After that Mrs.Nalini Balaji, Micro Biologist handeld session on skin donation and its procedures. The programme was useful to many students, faculty members and staff. The visitors from Ganga hospital were Mr.Sinoj, Social Worker, Mr.G.Arul Murugan, Physiotherapist, Mrs.Kaaviya, Psychologist. At the end Mr.S.Kanagaraj, Field Co-ordinator proposed vote of thanks.
  • Six I MSW students were undergoing field work at Pudupathy tribal village for their Case work and Group work practice. They found the case of disabled person Mr.Aaron. He has 80% locomotor disability. He has disability identity card, receiving pension from the government but he was in need of support of elbow crutches. The students facilitated and arranged elbow crutches on November 01, 2016 and initiated for bank loan.

  • II MSW students Ms.Sowmiya organized an awareness program on “NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY” 24/01/2017, with the help of counselor (District Child Protection Unit) in Ashoka puram Government Higher Secondary, Thudiyalur, Coimbatore. Awareness on rights of the child, good and bad touch, child labor act, child marriage act, POCSO and also created awareness about childline 1098 nearly 160 students participated in this program.
  • II MSW students Ms.Sowmiya & Ms.Mehartaj attend a Gram sabha meeting that has been held on “26/01/2017” at Pichanur Village Panchayat. MSW students created awareness on “Child Rights and Child Protection”. Topics covered under that are vulnerability of children, children in difficult circumstances, effective parenting, good and bad touch, Childline, child marriage act, child labour act and POCSO act. The session was useful for the general public to understand about Child rights and Child protection.
  • Learning enriches in an environment where an individual experiences both theoreticaland practical perspectives. The Social work Department of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham makes serious efforts to make the curriculum more skill based and practical. As part of curriculum the students of MSW 2nd semester are required to experience a rural experience. To serve this purpose the rural camp was designed from 11th February to 17th February 2017 in the rural and tribal villages of Anaimalai with the association of Mahatma Gandhi Ashram. Students are given a wide chance of taking up responsibilities for every aspects of the camp. Faculty coordinators are given responsibility of dividing students into committees and for giving timely guidance. The objective of the camp was to gain knowledge of different communities, rural cultural and social aspects of the life of the people, to develop interpersonal relationship among the students, practice the social work methods and principles, create awareness on certain problems among the rural poor, conduct service oriented programmes and to understand communal life and to develop personality of the trainees.
  • In association with NPS Chennai, posters were displayed in the watsapp groups and other media. This movement was taken up by almost all the Social Work Schools and Colleges in India
