Abstract : pThe venous system of the lower limbs is an organized and functional unit. Returning blood to the heart is its primary function. Several factors are involved in the control of this system. These include gravity, the reservoir capacity, venous tone, sympathetic control of smooth muscles, and many other mechanisms. Most of our misunderstanding of venous diseases stems from the inability to appreciate the delicate anatomy and physiology. Details of anatomy were considered in Chap. 2./p
