Abstract : Integration of various sensors into observation systems is complicated due to the increase in the number of sensor manufacturers and the various protocols associated with them. In order to address the complexity, the used infrastructure must be interoperable and independent of underlying platform and must consider sensor observations in a uniform manner. This paper focuses on adapting a RESTful architecture for OGC’s SWE services. This is done in order to overcome the Integration of various sensors into observation systems is complicated due to the increase in the number of sensor manufacturers and the various protocols associated with them. In order to address the complexity, the used infrastructure must be interoperable and independent of underlying platform and must consider sensor observations in a uniform manner. This paper focuses on adapting a RESTful architecture for OGC’s SWE services. This is done in order to overcome the limitations of SWE. The major limitations are associated with the architecture design and data format and this paper addresses these issues by implementing the different SWE services using RESTful architecture. The reason for this proposal is the fact that sensor nodes can be observed as RESFful resources and they are made attainable through SWE services and can be queried over SWE services. Another reasonable fact behind this proposal is that JSON data format which is lightweight can be used instead of XML in order to exchange messages; which can be a better extension for SWE. The performance analysis shows the advantage of using JSON notation instead of XML in terms of file size reduction.limitations of SWE.
